Sorta New Kid on the Block

You guys were so helpful before, I decided to turn to you again. So I am at almost three weeks now. No cheats, keeping carbs under 20 a day and keeping calories under 1600. I lost about 10 pounds in the first week and now in the last two weeks, nothing! Also, I go through stages of feeling awesome, then stages of feeling like I just need to lay down. Is this all normal? I feel no urges to cheat. But the lack of weight loss and the up and down has me having doubts! Any thoughts?

Yup, completely normal. Both the stall and the bouts of sluggishness. There’s even a name for the stall. PISS. Post Induction Stall Syndrome. It’s a carry over from Adkins, but it applies to Keto too. It doesn’t mean you aren’t losing fat though. Take measurements. It’s a mostly your body adapting the large amount of water it lost. The glycogen you depleted by severely cutting down on carbs was 75% water.
The energy lulls you’re having are also due to cutting carbs, your the fuel your body was used to. It will take 6-8 weeks for your body to learn how to use ketones efficiently for fuel. We call this being fat adapted. But you should feel better as you go along.
Making sure your replenishing your electrolytes will help some, but probably not all of your fatigue problems.

Yes, the rate of weight loss is normal. I lost, I seem to recall, about six pounds the first few weeks. I’m going on week twelve, and in the past three to four weeks lost another seven. I haven’t kept a chart, or anything, but more weight loss does seem to happen the longer you are on keto.
