Sorbitol and Mrs. Buttersworth syrup good or bad?

(Heather Meyer) #1

K… so ive done my research and i was shocked to discover that xylitol does raise blood sugar higher than i thought it would. So i abandoned it and switched to Allulose( which has no effect on insulin)
I also abandoned Maltitol…its from the devil im sure.

But what about Sorbitol? There is a Sugar Free Mrs. Buttersworth Pancake Syrup and its sweetened with Sorbitol. So how bad is it on insulin compared to maltitol or xylitol?

Cause what ive noticed is… if i eat somthing like maltitol or even somthing with xylitol… i crave like crazy!

All sugar alcohols spike my blood glucose. Get a BG meter, you can find them cheap at Walmart and test to see what affects you. Stevia extract does not bother me, so I use it sparingly in my coffee.

It really varies from person to person. The only way for you to know if / how it affects you is to test it out

It’s been my experience that if you stop eating the sweet things you stop craving the sweet things. It could be that I just don’t dig the keto desserts in general so I just don’t bother anymore. Bit of 90% dark chocolate does the job for me.

Didn’t we effectively have this discussion on your accountability thread the other day? I believe we did

It’s not just an increase in blood sugar or insulin that causes cravings - they sure as
shit
don’t help - but a lack of nutrition will do it too. Eat some real food :slightly_smiling_face:

yes and i agree…sweets can trigger sweets in some… But its been really quite interesting…

On Xylitol(before i knew insulin effect)
I was eating sweets and i was always having cravings for sweets.

On Allulose my cravings have lessened and i can eat a swert and feel satisfied and not crave more.

So curious about Sorbitol… i suppose i could make my own syrup now

Blockqu

please correct me if I am wrong, but with the information from
https://www.medicinenet.com/sorbitol-oral/article.htm#what_is_sorbitol-oral,and_how_does_it_work(mechanism_of_action)?
it seems to me to be as bad as maltitol. I just recently made some mistakes in the sugar free candy section. I am planning on reverting to the homemade fatbomb route and going through my pantry again. great question and thanks for the thread.
