Something nice to replace my afternoon coffee and evening alcohol?

#1

I have given up my afternoon coffee (in the interest of better sleep) and am looking for something nice to look forward to in the afternoon as a replacement for this ritual. Any ideas?

I have also quit drinking alcohol (2 years + now) and would like any ideas you have for something nice in the evening.

My strong coffee with butter and heavy cream is the highlight of my day but when that is over, what is there to look forward to? LOL

I am open to any and all ideas (even non food and drink ideas)

Thank you!

I switched up to a strong caffeine free tea in the evening with a little butter and cream - sometimes if I’m still craving something I add some coconut oil. I always put it in the vitamix for a few seconds so it gets all emulsified and yummy. I really like the spicy chai this way. Although I think the chai may have some caffeine. It helps me and I feel like I’m getting a treat!

Thank you Cheryl! Can you share the brand name spicy chai you like?

I’m a big fan of the Tea as well I really enjoy green tea varieties twinns is the brand I get they make all sorts of great tasting teas a long with night time teas. As far as alcohol goes I stay away from it right now i tend to enjoy it a bit much which tends to lead towards chasing my alcohol with unhealthy food.

You know, I completely understand the afternoon coffe, sleep issue, but you know what I did?..The unthinkable. I have gone to decaf, and if no one told me, I wouldn’t know the difference as far as flavor goes. Of course I know, because I made the switch and no one was there to sneak it in on me  But I don’t regret it at all, and I know that less cortisol production is a win for me anyway, plus I can have coffee whenever I want to and not think twice about it.

As for alcohol, I don’t partake, but there are so many nice teas and flavored waters, something with a twist of lemon, sprig of mint, or what have you. Best wishes in your search for those perfect replacements.

I’ve used a few different ones. I like the organiz Tazo Chai Tea Bags and recently bought a box of Chai Vanilla Celestial Seasons. I just use the bags / I usually use two because I like my tea strong.

I drink a hot cardamon infused black tea - I can drink it straight black (no sweetener) - later in the evening without too much issue of caffeine.

Sparkling water with some lemon or lime is my evening treat. The afternoon I usually have a peppermint or fruit tea.

what is your sparkling water of choice? thank you!

I drink fizzy water too. In order to break my husband of the soda habit. We make our own with very cheaply with a canister of co2 and a couple of 2 liter soda bottles from the brewing store with a couple of adapters we bought. A refill will cost less then $20 so way cheaper then a soda stream machine with tiny bb gun size canister. Anyway we use those tiny squirt bottles of flavored drink, like Mio, Vitamin water and others. Just make sure you read the labels. I myself have been cutting further and further back on the flavoring just because of it is too sweet. I will be working on making my own drink flavors using stevia and the other safe sweets. If you make your tea concentrated it also works good with fizzy water.

I use a brand called Galvania, it’s an Italian one. I’m in :canada: Can get it quite reasonable at Costco. They carry Perrier but at least $5 more for the same amount. Club Soda is good as well. Many grocery stores here have their own brand of plain and flavours. You just have to check that the flavoured ones contain no sweeteners. I’m pretty strict Keto so I don’t use the sweeteners.

@Cheryl311 I am not seeing the Celestial Seasonings Chai Vanilla Tea online. Are you sure it is Celestial seasonings?

@replay I also bought the CS Bengal Spice and that is SO nice! thank you!

La croix! I also have a sodastream and add things like a squeeze of lemon or lime.

Not a bad shout. Not something you can do in company though… or maybe you can but that’s a different forum lol

@seekingsimplicity

You know I ran out and I really am not sure which brand it was. The problem I have with some teas is that hey don’t have the nutrition information on them - this one did. So sorry!

I’m also a La Croix fan! Last night I had a caffeine free diet root beer with a splash of heavy cream. It was really good! I highly recommend that beverage if you do artificial sweeteners.
