Hi I’m just trying to get a optimal about of sodium supplemented per day and was hoping someone knew the gm per lb ratio on this ketogenic diet. I just pinch the Himalayan salt with my water but I can’t always do that at work and want to start filling capsules and split the amount into about 7 so it’s more consistent. Any pointers would be great!
Sodium to body weight ratio
Oh man, that sounds like A LOT of work! Just salt all the food you eat and take a pinch when needed. Our bodies are very good at regulating sodium. Just don’t drink a TON of water.
Thank you Mike I will slow my water intake for sure because I’ve been drinking allot of water to compensate for what I was use to doing before I was satiated. My learned response through out my entire life was eating the meals and snacks in between. Drinking just subsides that mental habit. It will help though understanding that I’ll feel better if I keep it in perspective. I read that it’s plenty of water to consume 1/2 oz per lb of body weight which was about a third of what I was drinking a day. I am a little perplexed at getting the required about of potassium a day now after reading that is need close to 2000 mg a day. Do you supplement potassium?
Not regularly. I eat a lot of avocado though. When I first started I would mix lite-salt into my “ketoaide” which is half sodium, half potassium.
Everyone has an opinion. To be honest, I’ve personally tracked what I’ve eaten/supplemented for 2 total days since I’ve started. I’m down almost 40#. I had a bit of a rough start because I was still fat phobic and afraid of salt. Now I cook with a lot of salt and salt most of my foods. It hasn’t been an issue, but I guess everyone is different.
It’s really hard to pinpoint an exact supplemental amount for someone. A range of 3-5g/day seems about average. Eventually you can let your taste buds do the deciding for you. I’ve found 1/4 tsp of the pink salt in ~20 oz of water to be where it tastes right most days. That may change if I’ve eaten something high in sodium on potassium. Plain water actually tastes yucky to me now.
Thanks Carol, I’m gonna try about 1/4 tsp pink salt with each liter of water I drink 3 to 4 times daily and with my food I’ll take 1 to 2 tsp potassium chloride/bitartrate as well a my magnesium supplement with food
