Soda makers

Tracy,
That’s a great approach. Give it 28 days (4 weeks). That’s it.
There is a reason. It is to deprogram the “cyclic” response of many hormones. And it’s long enough to make you go “duh” when you see real results.

  1. Drink water or Fizzy water
  2. Have a black coffee or tea (add nothing to it)
  3. Strict Eating windows (one meal must be completed inside of 60 minutes)
  4. No Snacking
  5. I assume you will be doing 2MAD or OMAD [1 or 2 hits of insulin per day, MAX]

Meals > 60 minutes COULD cause an extra insulin release (after 90 minutes it certainly does).

Bonus points if you do NOT eat after sunset (this has been shown to produce up to 50% more insulin in response to the food).

So, to be clear, ANY insulin basically shuts down Ketosis. A larger does does it for longer…

My experience in helping others has been remarkable. Doing that WILL help you out.
And it is a fair test.

Assuming that worked, her is my recommendation… ONLY have your drink just before a meal!
So you get the one hit of insulin, regardless. You can experiment with before/after the meal…
Personally, drinking something sweet after a meal opens my appetite more later on (which means I
got more insulin than I probably wanted).

HTH… And keep us posted. Someone coming in later will learn from all of this!

I’m game. See you in a month with my results.

Awesome.
Also, I would test your morning Glucose and Ketones. Every day.
What you SHOULD see is that your glucose tends to go lower over time, while your ketones will tend to rise a bit (The actual numbers are very very individual). This is the FIRST thing you will notice.

I would also like you to NOTE how you FEEL each morning when you test. Expect another bout of keto flu, but MUCH MUCH weaker. (People who go Pure Carnivore, even from Ketosis often feel this).
Just a heads up, it won’t last… But track that with your numbers. Reach out with your numbers if you have any question. If you are using USA glucose numbers (ie, 80-1xx range, not A1C 5.6 style), then you can calculate you GKI = Glucose/18/Ketones. The lower the better, in general.
3-6 is Maintenance.
1-3 is weightloss/therapeutic
< 1 is for deep healing therapy, like epilepsy, or cancer threrapy.

This number is fasted, first thing in the morning. And don’t be shocked when your glucose is higher than expected… This usually precedes some weight loss… But tracking these numbers, instead of the scale, will give you a peace of mind. You should be seeing yourself make progress here first!

I’m curious, why can’t I have some 40% heavy cream in my coffee? That would be the big hurdle for me to switch to black. When I said heavy cream and nuts cause me weight gain, I should have specified that I can’t drink a cup of it or use 2 cups in a recipe like I see everyone doing.

There’s no reason not to, if you enjoy the taste (I can tolerate heavy cream in my coffee, but I really prefer it black). The lactose and galactose content of heavy cream is minimal. But do try to find a brand with minimal additives. Sometimes they add gums and even dextrose to enhance the result of whipping, but 40% cream should whip just fine without all that, in my opinion. See if you can find heavy cream that’s just cream and nothing else.

I don’t find that heavy cream causes weight gain. Nuts are by no means carb-free, so yes, they cause me to put on fat if I overindulge (and if I start eating nuts, you can bet I’m going to overindulge). An annoyingly small number of almonds puts me over my carb limit.

But I find that if I overdo fat, my metabolism simply increases, and I start to waste heat by perspiring heavily. Since I hate sweating into the bedclothes, this is a good reason for me not to overindulge in fat. When I listen to my appetite, of course, I don’t overindulge in fat. However, I do overindulge when I’m trying to stave off carb cravings.

ok everything you folks just talked about is me !!! binging after fasting too…so I have taken a snapshot of this convo and pasting to fridge and as of July 14 I am on board for one month and see you in a month for results !!! Thankyou for presenting an option for me…Cheers all !!

I haven’t been able to access the forum for several days, not sure if it crashed or it was just on my end. I gave up artificial sweeteners and snacking 5 days ago and I’m down 2 pounds.

#48

Same here. Could not access this forum for days. Just wanted to say that nuts and cream stall me too!

The server hard drive keeps running out of space. It needs to be upgraded, and Richard is in the process of doing so. Should you feel the urge to help with the upgrade, please visit our Patreon page:

Tracy,
In for an ounce, in for a pound… Try it for 28 days.

Technically, you should be able to. But LETS pretend you have a slight dairy allergy (I do). Then consuming it will cause inflammation. Inflammation is a stressor. Stress can push cortisol, which then pushes glucose.

It’s a variable. If you know larger amounts can stall you, what will smaller amounts do. Straight up, I see a difference in my blood results. WORSE case. Do it for 14 days. Add Cream for 5 days. Compare your results at the end of 5 days. A friend I know gets KNOCKED out of ketosis just for adding heavy cream.

Finally, it is CALORIES, it does have SOME protein in there. It technically breaks a fast, and could produce an insulin response.

You are about to test something for a limited time. Be as CLEAN as humanly possible. Would it suck to do 28 days with cream, and then get ZERO results different, then leave yourself wondering. Was it the cream?

But you have to do what will work for you. The upside is that it is a LIMITED time.
If you need the motivation, tell me your start date, and I will follow along, doing the same! So you are not in it alone.

LOL The site kept crashing and I forgot this was pending! Sorry for the late post!

Pretty Soon, our numbers will be Legion… And more people will listen…

Every time you eat, you are releasing insulin. Artificial Sweeteners can do it as well.
If a sweetener tricks your body to lower your glucose after having it… It’s an insulin trigger!

What you just did is MARVELOUS. You learned something about you. And it tends to take 3-5 days!

I see you went with the siphon. If you ever decide on the soda stream route, you might also consider using Soda Sense to order refills. It’s a delivery service where you send 2 tanks back to get refilled while you use 1. They take any brand.

We have had our soda stream for years, and we still love it. Very helpful for fasting!

CaptainKirk,
I have to take frequent breaks from any kind of social media so I apologize for not giving you an update about my experiment. I gave up heavy whipping cream in my coffee and it was easy because I found an almond creamer I actually love and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to HWC. I gave up artificial sweeteners completely for about 2 weeks but was miserable without my Keto muffins. They are so low in Erythritol that I don’t think it’s harmful. However I completely gave up my Sucralose sweetened syrup that I nursed all day. The results…I went from 133 to 127 quickly and it hasn’t come back. Yay me! Thanks for the advice

Hi Tracy. Follow along. Would you please list the almond creamer that you enjoy? I’m afraid I need to give up my hwc in my coffee because something is really messing with my digestion and I need to figure it out. Much appreciated.

(Tracy) #55

Hi Athena, I use Nutpods regularly and a few days ago I discovered Silk unsweetened Pumpkin Spice at Albertson’s. I’ve tried just about every cream alternative and these are the best. If you are used to always drinking HWC or half and half you will notice a coconutty flavor at first. I’m reducing the amount of dairy products in my diet because it may not cause problems for some people but it can cause me to gain weight easily. Plus I don’t miss it so it’s an easy fix. Let me know what you think.

(Kirk Wolak) #56

Tracy,
That’s awesome…
Thanks for sharing back, it’s important for others… The Denial is strong in a lot of people.
It doesn’t affect everyone… And that creates the confusion. Everything should be challenged when you are stuck. A couple of weeks is all it takes…

Yay You is right! And finding other alternatives is important, so a second kudos to you!

For the record, the number of times it makes a difference is what helps me stick to my guns!
If it was hit or miss, it would be a lot harder… But I know that when people are stalling, there is
probably SOMETHING they are doing that’s not helping them. Some personal tweaks/tests will
get you there.

This is so weird… I drink Coke Zero to supress any sweet cravings (If I have any) and it doesnt touch my ketones nor Blood Sugar.

These peeps made an experiment to check that:

All bodies are different, for example I learn that salad with tomatoes and onion with olive oil (even less than 20gr) kill my ketones.

EDIT: I did the same experiment, and for me it lowers Blood Sugar but not by a lot (maybe 3 pts) which could totally be the apparatus.

EDIT 2: Last guy on Coke Zero could have easily have an insulin response, his Blood Sugar dropped and his ketones went up, usually Ketones goes up when BS goes down, and the reason your blood sugar goes down must be more insulin in the bloodstream. Now… with that low BS and good Ketone lvl, to me it is not a problem, because you are not gonna gain weight, even if insulin is the anabolic hormone for Fat growth, what is it exactly you are going to store? he did not eat a super carb meal.

I appreciate your response very very much. Something has been wrecking havoc with my digestion. Going on 4 months of on/off diarrhea (mostly on). Time to start figuring this out.

(Tracy) #59

My story in a nutshell that brought me to Keto:

I had been eating high fiber cereal with blueberries every night for about a year. One day my stomach exploded with gas and indigestion. The moment food touched my stomach you could hear the grumbles from across the room. I had gastric bypass 15 years ago and I thought someone was wrong so I saw a bariatric specialist. He diagnosed it as borborygmi which was harmless apparently, just annoying. He recommended a Keto diet. This naturally reduced my fiber and it took several months but it finally went away. On my next visit to him I told him about the improvement and he said it is probably because I’m getting less fiber. I introduced fiber back a few weeks ago as an experiment and the bloat came right back. This taught me to experiment with the foods I eat to isolate the problematic ones. Sucralose is 0 on the GI, but it makes me gain weight. HWC makes me gain weight. Who would have guessed that fiber is detrimental to my digestion when 99.9% of the doctors and health experts tell you to gobble it up because it’s so healthy.

It’s a mystery. I tried pre and probiotics for 2 months, psyllium husks (for a short time), cut back on sweeteners. I’m going to try to eliminate hwc for about a week to see if that helps, but I was only eating 2-4 tablespoons a day, if that, in my coffee. Thanks for your help.
