So this forum is almost a year old... and 2017 is coming to an end

Over the last year what are some of the coolest things you’ve learned from this site?

What are some of your accomplishments from 2017, NSVs or weight goals, fasting goals, just overall lifestyle goals? Where do you see yourself heading?

The future of keto is brighter than ever, what are some of the things you are looking forward to in 2018?

This site has been amazing, @carl @richard @Brenda and more have all had some huge impacts on our lives in a very short amount of time, and I am excited to see where we all can go in 2018!!!

Fasting, fasting, fasting and fasting. How to do it, how to experiment, the different forms and how to be healthy when it’s over.

I’ve also learned DETAILS about how to handle cravings and what causes them. How to read nutrition labels, what stalls mean and how to correct them. How hormones affect us. Too much to name really.

And lastly, I’ve learned that there are people out there with deranged metabolisms just like me. If we stick together and keep learning, growing and educating each other, we can become an extremely important movement that changes the way America eats and heals.

I have to add “and United Kingdom to” to the above quote.

Personally I have the following to report
01/01/2017 A type II Diabetic who was on 120m Insulin and several other medications.
25/Oct/2017 - Pathology report:-
Haemoglobin A1c = Normal - no action needed.
UREA + CREAT + ELECTROLYTES = Normal - no action needed.
Serum TSH level = Normal - no action needed.
Full Blood Count = Normal - no action needed.
Liver Function Test = Normal - no action needed.
So I can sort of say I no longer need Medications to keep all my Numbers NORMAL

2017 is when I learned to work with my body with a Keto diet to Normalise my life.

I am happy to have this forum to be able to trade information with like souls to get us all mended.
Follow the advice, avoid cheat days and you will be rewarded with some major life changes.
A big THANK YOU to everyone here.
Now = Looking toward 2018 and what that will also show us toward a healthier fuller Normal life.

Thank goodness - that’s what I say. I wasn’t at death’s door or anything, and likely would have lived another ten or twenty years, but it would have been on increasing oral medication for Type 2 Diabetes, then insulin injections, probably increasing after a while and with trying different formulations to find something that works. And all the while I’d still be making the underlying problems worse.

I know a good many people like that, among my co-workers and the locals here. I don’t think it ever really ends well.

The last few decades have had a lot of denial, compulsions, and ignorance on my part. The future really does look brighter now.

Greatest thing since the invention of the wheel!

I want to be a lean mean machine that knows what’s going on with all this privileged esoteric doctor/medical language and not tell me/us what is really going on with our diet and body, so they can sell a book or charge ridiculous fees to join some kind of program!

That is why I like Dr. Eric Berg so much because he’s fair, profoundly honest and balanced; he deserves every penny he makes!

This should be common knowledge (like computer hardware is with younger generations), not locked up in some medical science physiology book with almost incomprehensible walls of text that does not show the over all visual depiction of inter-relational chain reactions of biochemistry to us common folk…

I first heard the @dudes about 5 months ago. In that time I have:

  1. Come to understand how metabilism works
  2. Learned that I have Metabilic Syndrome
  3. Learned why I was unhealthy
  4. Learned how to be healthy using a ketogenic doet
  5. Learned to enjoy cooking
  6. Discovered that I am pre-diabetic
  7. Listened to ~2 years of the @dudes podcast
  8. Lost 32 pounds and 4 inches at the middle
  9. Met lots of nice people both in the forum and in my area
  10. Started planning an audio documentary to teach what I have been learning to others in the Christian community
  11. Discovered the joy of salt
  12. Loved every minute of it

My journey started in March when my brother told me about Bob Briggs video “Butter Makes Your Pants Fall Off”. From there I found Stephen Phinney, Jason Fung and Sarah Hallberg’s amazing TedX video. I became obsessive in finding info on this WOE. During this time, among many others I found the dudes podcast, which soon became my go to. I began binging on the available episodes. The podcast brought me here. While they weren’t my introduction to KETO, the podcast and this forum has been huge in keeping me inspired and learning on my journey.

My brother, who is 60, and has been diabetic for 15 years, reversed his in 6 months, and is no longer on any meds. My other brother is 57, and his diabetes was worse, has gotten off insulin ($300/month) and substantially reduced his oral meds. He’s well on his way.

I was lucky enough to avoid diabetes at 52. But weighed in at a hefty 440 lbs with an A1c of 5.9 on March 14th, 2017. Today I weigh 350 lbs and the NSV’s are even more impressive than the weight loss. The most important being a massive reduction of the debilitating pain that made daily life pretty much unbearable.

Sorry for rambling, but I’m so thankful for everyone who has provided the information, and my keto forum family for the inspiration. You’ve saved my life, and I can’t possibly thank you all enough!
