My macros per Keto Gains calculator are 84 proteins, 20 carbs and 110 fats (24%, 6% and 70%) and just over 1300 calories. I have a hard time reaching these numbers most days. I eat plenty on a natural 18:6 IF schedule. Today I have had 970 calories, 53 proteins, 8 carbs and 83 fats. Percentages are pretty close at 22.5%, 5% and 72.5%). I prefer to listen to my body but there’s no way I could eat another 330 calories or 30 grams of protein. Fat loss is my goal but I don’t want to lose muscle mass. I constantly read “eat your protein”. I’m 8 weeks in on full Keto. Any thoughts?
So NOT Hungry
Counting calories isnt really needed. Just eat until you are full. It took me forever to understand that. i always struggled with people saying you need to eat enough to not slow your metabolic rate, and struggled myself. But what really got me was something I heard on a podcast recently.
Being fat adapted you are going to get quite a few calories from stored body fat, and we cant measure those, so counting calories is pointless and we really just need to go off our bodies message that is hunger. Also, its surprising how little protein the body actually needs in order to maintain muscle mass, I wouldn’t worry too much and just keep calm and keto on being 8 weeks in you are most likely fat adapted and can hear your bodies signals now, so just listen to your body and let it do what it does. Your body will tell you if you need more protein, it doesn’t want to lose muscle mass just as much as you.
If your done eating, don’t worry about it. Your body will tell you what you need.
By nature, I’m a “trust but verify” sort. I believe the studies that Dr Fung (and others) quote about muscle mass not decreasing during a fast. But that doesn’t stop me from verifying it for myself by getting a DEXA every 3 months.
I had a BPC this morning, had my eggnog this afternoon, which is mostly fat and a little protein. I made myself a cobb salad for dinner, I ate about 6-8 bites, and could not eat anymore, the rest I fed to the dogs. I was not going to force myself, I have read too much good info from the good folks on this board, and that is one of them, only eat when you are hungry.
All of you prove once again that we can trust our bodies to give us instructions. Thanks for validating what makes sense to me. I appreciate the feedback.
