So IRRITABLE after slip-up!

#1

I know I’m not alone in having eaten some non-keto food within the past 2 or 3 days, and I’ve forgiven myself and am back on track, but WOW am I grumpy and irritable! Anyone ever experience this after eating sugar / carbs? I’ve been ready to take everyone’s head off all day. Woke up that way and am still feeling it now… hoping I wake up more human tomorrow.

Sheesh! I can’t even stand myself right now!

When I indulged in cake & ice cream for my birthday (everything else I ate that day was Keto); I had the worst sugar buzz of my life and then the worst sugar CRASH of my life. I was irritable and felt like I had a hangover (I don’t drink).

It definitely opened my eyes! Next time it will be bites, if that.

I feel you girl, it’s ROUGH!

Hi Jen.
Maybe it’s not all the carbs doing this to me but boy am I in a bad way mentally and emotionally. I think it may also just be that I am exhausted and badly need some “down time” to recharge my batteries after the hectic holiday season. I’m also an introvert so even though I can socialize with the best of them, it takes a lot out of me and I need then to recharge “alone” for a while. Haven’t had that opportunity in weeks.

I was just getting so accustomed to being in a great mood and full of energy from eating keto that this “funk” is a big contrast and really obvious. I guess between the fatigue, busy schedule, and a day of un-clean eating, my body is protesting. It just wants to lay down and eat fat! Unfortunately, the schedule isn’t allowing the “lay down” part yet. Maybe this weekend.

If you cannot lay down and eat fat- do what you gotta do and eat fat! Lol.

I for one am relieved that the holidays are OVER and I can concentrate on Keto-ing on.

I did notice when I had my indulgence day that I was CRAVING FAT (I ate an entire pound of bacon later that night). Since this was my first time indulging I have no idea if this is common?

Hang in there & feel better soon.

I’m not bitchy but I definitely feel out of sorts. I knew I probably would when I made the decision to eat Non-Keto foods. So I was ready for it. But I can’t wait to start feeling better. Drink lots of water to flush it out of your system! Hope you feel better soon!

yeeeep Right Here girl!!! I kind of let myself indulge just to kind of see how I’d feel and what my body would do, and if I’d gain weight. After 2-3 days of tamales, ice cream, chips and all the other non Keto crap, I was done for yesterday. I felt super fatigued, irritable, unfocused all day yesterday. I seriously could not even get up off the couch! So, I really need to get back into Keto. Any suggestions as to get back into Keto fast?

  • Up your fluid and electrolytes intake
  • Lower your net carbs to 10 grams or under for 3 days
  • Avoid artificial sweeteners for next 3 days
  • Add more movement to burn all that excess glucose
  • Drink bone broth for hydration and sodium

Sorry you felt it, too, but glad for the company. Yes, unfocused and just too depressed and tired to care. Just wanted the world to go away so I could crawl under a rock. This morning I woke up feeling the same way and was debating if I was going to go to work or given in to the lousy feelings and stay home. Just trying to make that decision almost caused me to break down in tears - I couldn’t think or decide!

Came to work, fasted for as long as I could hold out (14 hours) and am starting to feel a little more human. I’m peeing like every hour so I guess I’m heading back into ketosis but now I have to make sure to replace the electrolytes as well as the water.

Geez - lesson learned!

Doing all of the above, except the sweeteners. What’s the reasoning behind that - it might be causing insulin spikes?

Not really sure. Just parroting what I’ve read from a group I follow on Facebook. Your explanation makes sense though. Or could be just get our bodies back to dealing with no sweet foods faster.

Sugar is so damned addictive that you’re probably craving your next hit and it’s just not happening. Could be the reason you’re feeling the way you are, you’re having withdrawals?

Maybe not enough food from the “bacon group”?
Bacon group foods make me happy.

Bacon makes everyone happy!

Bacon is a miracle drug and fixes almost everything!!!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #17

My experience was rather the opposite. The height of my bad temper came on Sunday evening, when I had been eating keto all day, and there were no noticeable effects from the carbs at Christmas dinner on Monday. The explanation probably lies in the high stress levels all church organists experience in December, and in the fact that my sister took the burden of the holiday cooking on her shoulders—and I had the good sense to let her.

So for me, Christmas Day was really relaxed this year, and I received two excellent gifts that have really helped my mood, a Spotify gift certificate and noise-canceling headphones! I got to lie in all day yesterday (Tuesday) and check out my gifts—basically spending hours napping and listening to wonderful music. With all that Renaissance polyphony pouring over my ears, I hardly noticed any after-effects from the Christmas carbs. Though the story might very well have been different if I’d had to listen to the crappy music on my dad’s conservative religious radio station as usual.

I do think I should probably give away the remaining dark-chocolate :chocolate_bar: bars, however, and go back to munching pork rinds . . . :bacon: !
