So I know I shouldn't, but

I’m having a stiff whiskey tonight. My grandma’s funeral was today and I’m bummed. What’s this gonna do to my ketosis? I’m not super clear on the effects of alcohol. I’ve heard both “it stops ketosis.” And also “it is ok sometimes.” What’s your guys’ experiences?

I’ve seen everything from recovering alcoholics to almost booze-hounds here and loads of people drink regularly on keto with little to no ill effects.

I could go on about processing booze stressing the liver, interrupting ketosis, hidden carbs, lowered tolerance, etc. but really, unless you are one of the recovering alcoholics, have a whiskey… sounds like you earned it…

…though you may regret it in the morning (I know I would… I’m such a booze lightweight these days)

Lol I hardly drink as it is, and since I started eating like this I haven’t lol. Fell off the wagon for about a week and had a margarita during month two, but have been during since :grin:.
Grandma Pat was 88, so she had a good long life, but we will miss her. Thank you for the rapid response. This is why I come here :grinning:

I see a lot of comments on the Reddit Keto group from people that say they go out drinking for the first time after starting Keto and can’t handle drinking as well as they used to. They say they get drunk faster and have a worse hangover.

No experience personally, as I haven’t had alcohol since 1978 or so. And even then, it was tequila sunrises, heavy on the orange juice.

Certainly true for me (I was shocked at what my first keto pint did to me) but many seem to maintain their tolerance - we are all sozzled snowflakes too :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hello previous 12 stepper and 20 years drinking navy sense seeing the post i feel for the loss, and I am going to do a experiment to use the “ketoaide” prior to my next drink to see if it can word off the symptoms my wife said the nurses use a B-12 shoot to stop effects of the and a lactaid ringer IV and also Naval corps man also after the deployments days. so I thought of the add the keto aid, acv potassium magnesium before the drinking and in morning. maybe it will slow the process of water loss dehydration and dreaded headack.
but i had some margarita last night and did not feel to bad but felt the dehydration but not sick I now normally drink my shot 1oz, of ACV with magnesium citrate and tsp of cream of tartar and mix ginger ale.
give it a try. it stops all my leg crams nowadays, 5 months on keto. Also read that if supplimenting salt, pink should add, K 50/100 Na ratio (patasium sodium) and it will stop the water flush out of system this is something i am going to try with the few carbs I have to eat with the family.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I always find that bereavement and major stress causes quite a shift in priorities, for a while. Perfectly understandable!

I am sure you raised that glass with love.

Sorry about your granny, hope you enjoyed the whiskey, and also that the hangover, if any, wasn’t too bad. :bacon:
