So how am I ( and YOU ! ) doing now?

Just wondering if anyone wd like to post an update on how their daily keto-days are going … and then maybe chat about the current state from time to time. Stare of the Keto ha ha - Yah !

OK, I’ll reply to this !

I’ve been learning, reading and experimenting w both LCHF and more total Keto eating for abt 3 1/2 weeks new. Lots of questions but things settling nicely into place. So much out there on this!

I’m normal BMI - was 23 and aiming down to 20 just cuz I feel so much better overall at BMI 20 ( 5’5” 120) so I Want That. There, I said it.

Just bought a Precision Plus ketone meter and my blood had 0.6 mmol ketones. Yay ! I’m losing pounds and feeling great so this must be real.

Next I want to work out how to up my carbs enough to add back my organic vegies without losing this ketotic state. I might actually wait until I hit my goal and stay there a few days to a week before I start to up these carbs - 8 pounds to go !

Would love to hear how you and you and you are doing with this !

My first goal was 126lbs after weighing in at 152lbs at the doctors in Feb 2015, heaviest I’d ever been (even heavier than pregnancy weight) and it shocked me into action. Wasn’t keto straight away, but for a few months I tracked and counted calories (with some success - I lost 17lbs that way) before gradually drifting into keto around May 2015 (then after a few weeks I found what I had been doing actually had a name!). Hit my goal on 14th July 2015 and just carried on doing what I was doing.

Stopped tracking / counting completely in July this year, still making good progress - weight as of this morning was 114.8lbs (BMI 20.3 though I don’t rate BMI as a way to judge at all, just checked as you mentioned it).

Very cool and thanks for adding this. You did great in 2015 ! I had more trouble in that just one time, after about age 20 I’d guess (64 now) was I able to drop from about 140 to 120 with cal count by iphone, pretty much eating the few same “favorites” for a couple months and fast walking abt 30 minutes a day. Never again successful until now with keto.

Although I’m reallly enjoying the folks on this and another forum doing this, I’d love to talk a bit with folks who feel they might be comfortable with the idea of carefully adding carbs to a certain point while staying in keto.

I’m stil 7-8 from my goal of 120lbs and think I might well wait til then - looks like maybe 2-3 weeks from now the way things are going. But then I’d really like to find a way to increase carbs to the point that I can get back to my organic vegie cooking routine plus fish and maybe just a touch of brown rice from time to time. That still seems healthy as does eating more freely with friends and family - although I’m starting to figure that latter part out a whole lot better.

I bought a blood keto meter and have a good feel of how good I’m feeling with this metabolically. Thinking that as long as I maintain goal weight and feel this good, my meter ought to tell me I’m still in keto. Then I guess it will be a matter of slowly adding carbs and counting them to see just what I can do with this.

Your thoughts ?

Best !!!

In honesty, I don’t know if I’ve increased carbs or not as I don’t track. I do occasionally think of tracking for a week just to see, but I really cannot be bothered with it now. Some days it does seem like I eat a LOT of carbs though, always enjoy lots of veg, but I have no desire to add back in any sort of starches as I just feel so much better without them.

You can find your own carb tolerance with tracking and blood testing, plenty of people do this, but it isn’t something that appeals to me at all.

So how are you doing this ? I’m starting to learn how many carbs my “ usual “ foods have, so can imagine just goi g by that and then watching fir continued drop in weight. Or stable weight. Is that it ?

As I said above, this isn’t something that appeals to me at all. I know others do it, but not me - I just stopped tracking completely but have no desire to reintroduce starches of any sort into my diet.

Good for you, Ah-tee. :slightly_smiling_face: Despite 20 to 25 being considered normal, there are benefits to being at the bottom of that range. Dr. Roy Taylor says that a BMI of 25 is four times as likely to become diabetic as is a BMI of 20. The lower figure will almost always mean substantially less intraorgan fat, a very good thing.

Congrats on this @Shortstuff ! This is pretty much where I am hoping that I’ll be in a couple weeks. Add to that having increased my carbs to maybe 50 net just so that I can eat with my husband again - we have some favorite foods - ha ha all organic, vegie , healthy (!). And, like you, knowing what they are carb wise so not having to count and track. I think that part must just be learning curve.

In a couple weeks I think I’ll be goal weight so maybe that’s a good time to start to add back a few ( carbs). And while doing that, give a lot of mindful attention to this process so that I will know internally just what’s going on. Watch weight daily and maybe chk keto status now and again.

Thanks for the example and encouragement !

Yes I think so too, @OldDoug. Although my own family has not been overweight (so good genes hopefully), I’ve been a little chubby (BMI 23+) and I like the idea of the bottom of that scale just cause so often as we get older … etc !

Yah I’m hoping this might turn out like me as well. Vegies - Yes! Starches - the only thing I like with starches is brown rice and my fav cereal mix - Raisin Bran/ Cheerios/slivered almonds/ raisins+dried crans. Some “no no’s” there but will want to try to add to add this back - in minuscule quantities ha ha. It’s a shared thing w hubby that’s the main thing there although I love it too.

Will have to see what works !

Although BMI is convenient, a much better measure would be to get a body fat analysis done. Some folks have larger amounts of muscle mass lying underneath a thin layer of fat, which may make them look chubby when they’re really not.

So far so good. I am really loving keto though I still have a lot to learn. The only downside is that dinner is a bigger process now but I love to cook so that is okay

OK how’m I doing ? Pretty good by keto measures. 0.7 blood just now w 1.5 pink color dip. Feeling good as well although yesterday felt pretty dim all around while on day 2 egg fast. Ran out of eggs after 3 eggs today so sautéed salmon w curry mayo and saracha. Delicious ! Nearly 1 pound down past 4-5 days.

Now I’d like to stay in keto by at least blood measure and my feel of it. We’re heading out to a friend’s house for 3 days and will try to eat in real small amounts, go real light on carbs.

Wish me luck that I’ll still be in keto Tuesday pm once we’re back here ! along w further scale drop and feeling good.
