@Groversaurus and I are sitting here foaming about the stupid show „Embarrassing bodies“ that seems to bite on the topic of obesity today.
The advice these „coaches“ and „doctors“ give make us so angry. We can’t believe how they give people pills to remove the fat out of their diet. Its aggrovating to hear how the blame the victims and preach CICO bullshit… on top they make all sorts of insulting comments about the participants and call them funny names… like the Fat Family. How is this shit allowed on television?
I watch my 600 pound life and it is a real head-shaker. These people actually stop at the Fast-Food places to eat before seeing the doctor. The doctor usually tells them to lose 50-100 pounds in a month by eating a 1200 calorie low carb high protein diet. This show is pretty good, but the excuses these mega-obese people come up with are mind-bending.
I’ve watched my 600 pound life and I agree with you, the justifications people can come up with are amazing. The part that really gets me though is how some of the families can enable these folks with killing themselves by bringing in mounds of bad food and helping them justify it, so sad really.
I am the FatMan, I eat fat, and I wish I was in a FatFamily. We are getting closer.
Calling a family fat as ridicule? I think that comes from blaming obesity on a lack of character. To be honest, I am ashamed that I used to view fat people, including myself, this way. This is one of the reasons I think of myself as the FatMan, a personal reminder not to fall into that trap. Now, when I see someone who is obese gorging on carbage, I experience primarily sadness and empathy instead of disgust motivated by self loathing for personaly engaging in the same behavior.
The solution? Help those who are ready and willing to be helped.
No point stressing about the media, just don’t watch it. Vote with your remote control, change the channel. That’s the only way garbage tv shows will go away.
Totally agreed… I am so sad for this people thats why it winds me up to see them presented in such a way and all this false informations being passed on
„Just don’t watch it“ Can be transferred to „Just don’t read it“ … just saying love!
I damn well choose to get wound up about such shit, simply because I find it harmful. Desperate people watch this show and get sucked in even more in this downwards spirat of false information and selfblame.
I think saying don’t stress about it and dont watch it is like telling someone they don’t have to comment on a post they think is wrong and unhelpful.
These shows will not go away just by not watching them. As long as these shows spout the “fat is bad” and CICO bullshit people will continue to believe that the low-fat, SAD advice is gospel that the better informed of us now know to be, IMO, negligent.
Well said… I can’t belive that this „The Biggest Looser“ stuff is still allowed on TV after even the New York Times has reported how it failed is participants… I hope some day people will get their own back on them with the help of science and some good lawyers… its insane
Another show that was crazy was the “Brookhaven Obesity Clinic” from 2007. It’s didn’t show much about the patient’s nutrition, but what little they did was clearly Carb based semi starvation.
