Slightly Angry

I don’t even know what is a Kind bar. Probably something I couldn’t even eat, so horribly tasting. I have this with keto bars

Indeed, paleo probably helped a lot in many countries, it’s very popular here since ages (my low-carb times started with it 13 years ago) but we eat high-fat anyway and people won’t just give up their carbs and highly processed things. The health-conscious ones make changes, dietary advice is quite bad and the masses just eat the HCHF food they find tasty.
Big changes are far in the future at this point. But hopefully things get a bit better and not worse in the near future…?

No wonder the US leads the world in obesity. If people do decide to change, they really have no idea what is “healthy” food or how to achieve and sustain long term weight loss. IMO, keto is the answer!

Paleeze, I worked for a school district for thirty years. Our School Lunch program was supposedly the gold standard - what a joke!!! Maybe that was because every student got an apple on their tray every day, whether they liked it or not. 95% of them wound up in the garbage uneaten or with one bite out of them - I know because I’d collect them to donate to a local horse rescue. Obscene what we consider “nutritional ‘food’”.

The amount of food waste worldwide is staggering. The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations has been saying, literally for the past four decades, that we already produce enough food to feed the world. The problem has never been production, but rather poor distribution, and lack of the political will to change things.

At least it didn’t go to waste…
It’s so strange to me, apples are candy, basically, just more tempting due to juiciness and many other things… I LOVE fruits with a forever burning passion. Slower burning since carnivore but it won’t go out
Apples are usually too sweet though. But not for kids or for kid me, for current me.

Whenever I hear about numbers, I get shocked and sad :frowning: I am all for giving unsold vegs and fruits to animals, that’s something. Some zoos collect them, that’s good.
Some amount of waste is obviously unavoidable but the avoidable waste is horribly much…

And actually, it’s a waste too when it gets eaten very much unnecessarily, often harming the one in the process…

Not sure fat is considered to be good. Go into a yogurt aisle, hard to find full fat yogurt. Hard to find full fat milk. These are there, but 1/5 the space. Can’t get full fat milk in schools, but can get nonfat, high sugar chocolate milk.

Crazy. I almost never saw extremely low-fat milk and yogurt… 2.8% milk is basic, if a supermarket has milk, it has some 2.8% one (and probably 1.5% too and that’s it for smaller places). And I thought Greek yogurt is always 10% until I have read on this forum that it exists lower-fat too. 99% of Greek yogurt here (okay, just what I saw when I focused on it) is 10% fat.

BUT we don’t have over 30% cream (I saw 35% once in my life and I pretty much check out all cream now as it’s an important item for me even if I consume little)…

#28

yes that is another pet peeve of mine, the waste factor!! ugh.

very cool you collected for the horse rescue, I know that is one critter that would love those apples

Kids know what’s good for them… :joy::joy::joy::joy::scream:

yea they throw ‘the healthy ick apple’ on the plate but the kids want the pizza, chips, pastry and french fries…wouldn’t one think to ‘change the main meals’ first  wait, that is too hard to offer, crap convenience fast food type is easier to supply to them and then 'just throw on that ‘healthy’ apple…what a darn joke over it all truly and yet we humans allow it to continue? ugh crazy for sure, wait, the humans are the crazy ones truly…won’t be changing that any time soon, haha

In my kids high school they have ‘Thursday Pizza Hut day’ and they got Tuesday ‘Chick-Filet day’ and believe me everyone gets it. No one wants the ‘school food’ on those days…wild stuff truly!

(Marianne) #31

Probably not that good for them, either!:rofl:

(Marianne) #32

Yeah, but the problem is instead of the apples, they prefer the plastic pizza, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, etc.!

Exactly!!!

When I was a kid, I wanted apple, most definitely. After a ton of food, of course, apple was just fruit, not even dessert.
And one wasn’t enough.

We didn’t have pizza when I had a kid. We barely had a few pizzeria in the country to begin with, I definitely had no idea pizza existed… But once I cried after eating a tiny chicken drumstick as I wanted more… And I wasn’t even into meat let alone chicken, I merely was hungry. I had few good memories about school lunches but they were famously horrible indeed. There were a few favs though.

And they were proper (erm… from some viewpoint) cooked dishes. They still are. Soup, main dish, the potential apple…
I got apple in the hospital too. It could have been way worse  Indeed, I only got it because I refused some sugary drink or something…? I don’t remember much more.

But my love towards fruit notwithstanding… Yep, it’s candy, not food let alone health food… Apple has some extremely, undeservedly good press.
I get a bit mad when apple is used as a proper meal we should be thankful for in movies and books and fanfics… Even Pippin (was that Pippin?) got an apple for second breakfast in The Lord of the Rings but I saw it zillion times given to poor, starving kids and whatnot. Sigh. Not as a start, it’s the meal they came up with and it should last for hours or maybe more. It’s such a cliche food/meal… Apparently the default for some people.
It’s bad with my nutrition knowledge too but both my SO and I would be really, really miserable with an apple. There is a reason we never ever eat that as a meal, no matter what. Are others so very different? The nutrition thing is still there… At least the hobbit got his other meals…

Oh we had elevenses and we could order stuff from the school buffet… We could show off what we decided was best for us (not like the options were many). So we often ordered sugary cocoa with a chocolate covered pastry with super sugary jam… I still cringe when I think about that.

By the way I can’t wrap my head around the “putting sugar into fruit” thing people love to do so much. Fruit is already so very sugary… And me being whoever I was as a kid doesn’t help, interestingly. I got disconnected from that. But I did feel most fruits sweet enough even then. As they are insanely sweet indeed so how could I not…?

I can’t say I’d blame kids for eating pizza instead of an apple. I’d do the same.

Instead of Meatless Mondays, I’d like to see more meat options, more full fat milk options, etc.
