Hi
I feel very healthy, did my blood tests, perfect results, my skin looks better, my body looks better, my period is more stable but…
I still wanna take a nap once i ve eaten.
I used to go to sleep at 2pm but now cant hold my eyes open at midnight! And i ve sleeped after lunch for an hour or even two.
I wake up earlier than before…thats the only difference!
Why? I should be more energetic, but that didnt happen…is it normal?
I m onn the 5th keto month …
Sleepy on keto?
Being ready for bed after a meal is typically a blood sugar crash. What are the meals you’re eating before this happens? A sample days diet with notes of crashes would help.
Usually i have some avocado, butter and some tahini in the mornibg( at 7. pm). After that i m fine and energetic. For lunch( at 3 am) i ll have some meat with butter and salad green with mayo and olive oil. I ll have a piece of 85% chocolate after. I wanna go to sleep then…i have for dinner( at 10.30 or later) a big salad with cauliflower or broccoli or spinach with lot of avocado butter olive oil and some cheese maybe. After that som3 tahini or almonď butter or some fat bomb( rarely). After that i wanna sleep as well…during the day coffee without anything
I’m not quite understanding your post. You say you used to go to sleep at 2PM and now you’re sleepy at midnight? Seems like an improvement to me. I’m assuming you transposed some terms in that sentence, but I still can’t puzzle together what you meant with certainty. If you used to go to sleep at 2PM, but now you’re sleepy at noon that makes more sense, but going to sleep at either of those times seems odd to me. If you meant you used to go to sleep at 2AM but now you get sleepy at midnight I don’t see the problem. Midnight is going to sleep time for me too.
Perhaps thats good change, ok. But fact is that i get sleepy after lunch too…and after dinner especially when late.
I am assuming you work night shift. (Me too). You still need 8 hrs sleep. That wasn’t clear from your post.
I try to sleep 9:30 am to 4:30 or 5 pm. I eat bigger meal before work, fast at work sometimes I’ll have a handful of nuts or some cheese at work. (no more 2 am sleepiness) and have a little nibble before bed about 8:30 am.
Some thoughts I have:
Perhaps it is the sugar in the chocolate; you could try a higher percentage? It seems that your meals with more vegetables and carbohydrates make you sleepy, whereas your first meal is fewer carbohydrates and you are not sleepy? Or maybe it is the almond butter, which does contain carbohydrates–how much are you eating? Also, many people have nut intolerances; perhaps you have one and this is how it is manifesting.
I think I have the same problem. I get very sleepy one to two hours after I eat. It does not matter what I eat or when I eat it. I usually fast through to lunch and I will get sleepy after lunch. If I am hungry before that and have an ounce of macadamia nuts, I’ll get sleepy an hour or two after that.
I have been keto for 11 months and lost 83 lbs. It has happened the whole time I have been on keto. It feels just like a carb crash used to feel, but it happens even if I eat bacon and cream cheese, like I had today at lunch.
I have seen several posts about it, but I have never seen anyone get a good answer to this question.
@Sisi1 is this what you are experiencing, or am I off base?
This is the exact case!! The only meal that doesnt make me sleepy is breakfast. Maybe because i have always things to do and dont even think about it…
That could be. I tend to skip breakfast, but on the weekends when I’m doing housework and running errands, I don’t notice it. But at work, I’m always sitting at a computer, so I think it’s worse then.
Don’t under eat. Does more harm than good.
I used to go to bed around 2am, but it was the carbs that kept me going at night. Now I prefer 11pm latest and early mornings.
