Sleepless yet

I am now into 5 months on keto.

A new odd thing has happened. I seem to have stopped sleeping.

I have always been a bit of an insomniac… but, usually I am very tired and just can’t sleep…finally falling asleep in the wee hours.

But…for the last two nights I have not slept. I have not been tired. This is now the 3rd night…10:30pm and I am not tired. This is so weird. I finished a 48 hours fast this morning…I thought that maybe that had something to do with it.

Is this some vitamin deficiency? Nutritional?

I take extra salt and magnesium each day…as well as an electrolyte drink daily. Nothing has changed… anyone had this experience?

I have heard that Vitamin D taken at around noon helps you feel drowsy about 8 hours later.

It is worth a search on the topic, here is the link I found but have not read yet

I recently had the same issue, just figured I’d sleep if I was tired enough. The past few days, I have been taking extra salt, making sure I get at least 4 g of sodium (not salt) every day and I’m sleeping great.

I know you said you’re getting extra salt, but are you getting enough extra salt to end up with 4 g sodium?

Ok…I think I might have found the problem…

I take magnesium and salt every day. A week ago I changed the electrolytes drink I use…I finally read the label(I know…my bad). It contains all the additional salt and magnesium I need.

So, I think I was seeing the result of too much. (Yes, I have had the diarrhea to go with it). So…no added today…see what happens tonight

Yes, fasting can cause insomnia. I often have issues with it when I’m fasting. A number of people who are regular fasters who have this problem, try other methods for sleeping. I usually find a nice whisky before bed helps me out. Other people have tried CBD or OTC sleep aids.

@Katiekate
UPDATE ON PREVIOUS POST ABOVE ABOUT SALT

I’m getting a minimum of 4 g of sodium every day and sleeping all night. Last night, I didn’t even wake up once to go to the bathroom.
