I have lost 40 pounds since December 2018. I have gone from a size 14 to a 4 and for past several months I have had issues sitting for very long. I am just assuming this is from lack of padding that I am used to, lol.
Has anyone else experienced this after weight loss? Or other problems they didnt expect after losing weight?
Skinny girl problems! Tail bone rubbing
I can’t imagine being a size 4 - not possible in my wheelhouse - just don’t have that body type. I would bet this is a real problem, though (tailbone hurting). Worse things in life, I guess - I bet you are rocking your clothes! Fair trade-off, I’d say.
@MommyJill2005 I was heavier earlier in my life, from my teens until late 20’s, maybe a 12 when I was at my highest weight while pregnant with my daughter. I lost a ton of weight rapidly after I had my son almost 9 years ago, and was about a 4 when I started keto over 5 years ago. I’m a 0 now, but my frame is not what I’d call petite. I’m 5’7” and have broad shoulders and more of an hourglass figure, but tend to gain weight in my hips and legs first when that happens. I always thought it was because of my build that I have problems with my tailbone sticking out and making it difficult to sit down for long. Laying on my back on the ground is impossible. The bruising is horrible. So, you’re not the only one!! And neither am I ! Lol!
My story almost to a T. 40lbs down, size 14 to a size 4, and tailbone issues! I’d thought it was due to my having damaged it from landing on it on the nose of my bike saddle (and then continuing to ride, of course). I mean, I can feel it while lying in my bed, and it’s a soft-ish bed! I have to shift my hips a bit to get off that lump.
So now I’m consciously making every movement something that might increase my buttocks size. Dropped a pencil? Here, let me squat to pick that up for you…sideways squat cuz it’s aalll the waaayyy over there and I’m oh so lazy to walk over there and just bend over lol
yeah, I need my butt back, however measly it was with a bit of extra padding
oh and my boobs too!
Ha, flat butt problems, yep I feel ya.
Coccygeal pain, if I sit too long at desk (cushy chair no less) or even reading in bed at night. No help for it that I’ve found beyond sitting kinda sideways
(I’m 115lb, also a 4/5 in pants).
Yes, I’ve noticed that w/ myself, a more sensitive tail bone w/ a new susceptibility to pressure, making me do all kinds of sideways sitting that can get wonky - requiring a Miracle Cushion (dense memory foam) after having various sloppy or unhelpful cushioning arrangements I’m 5’10" and wasn’t obese - have lost about two clothing sizes and have good muscle mass so for me it’s about the recomp rather than the weight per se.
However my lean backside (and shrinked thighs) is more than just LCHF/keto - there’s a compounding peri/menopausal & postmenopausal fat storing change for most women that happens whereby the body taps extraneous adipose fat (like buttocks fat) for hormonal balancing, and for complex reasons pertaining to cortisol, increases its rate of new adipose storage specifically in the belly (which I’m addressing w/ Ginger, metabolic boosting via resistance training, and alkaline keto). Average hourglass becomes more apple-y. The very bright side is that the adipose fat burning during The Change can really help eliminate or reduce any negative symptoms for many women, as it balances hormones, etc. Except, no one mentions the skinny backside ache lolol. Compound that with keto, and well, it can create a “Celery Backside” which requires either a return to indigenous living, or a standing desk, or a Miracle Cushion
For gals that are already celery-types and low-carb, I guess the backside fat pad change and nerve change is more subtle or nonexistant, esp for gals that haven’t had injuries to that region (I’ve had a few, from falling down stairs, falling onto my hip from slipping on a marble step in the rain, plus a bicycle accident when I was a kid etc).
I was driven to the edge of my seat though, literally, over it - being that I have a deskjob and a workspace that makes a floor-sitting desk (my preferred kind) impractical. On the bright side, it increased my movement for breaks, and the new cushion allows me to sit comfortably during the second half of my day when previously my ischial tuberosity/sit bones were starting to ache, yell, verge on bursitis (despite my Ginger intake which is great for pain, etc). Obv, chair sitting for many periods during the day (even if you take regular breaks) aggravates any past injuries in life - but there is more going on when one is female and has experienced a significant change in fat storage in the butt, a subject that is not addressed in most general articles on the topic (and won’t be expanded on until more females are doing the research and writing pertaining to women’s health).
Anyhoo, my new skinny butt does exist, and does not like chair sitting for office work unless I sit cross-legged in my big chair (which is what I generally do the first half of the day - but eventually the back wants to relax). When I adopt the typical western chair-sitting posture with feet on the floor, my backside ache builds by the hour.
The article has some helpful movement exercises for addressing serious backside ache - though what I do is just walk around and feel better soon.
There are exercises that can increase the size of your gluteus maximus which should give you the added padding you need.
Here’s just one of many sites.
My actual glutes are well muscled though, it’s the lack of fat pad in my case - and the damned chair. Lololol
I’ve had the tailbone issue in the past when I’ve lost weight, but only for a while till my body got used to the new situation. But not this time. I suspect because I don’t have a car now so I have more muscle back there. Not a lot, but enough for chair padding. My issue is with my elbows. My bed is pretty hard. Which I actually prefer over too squishy. And I sleep on my back. So sometimes I’ll wake up with my hands tingling. As soon as I move my arms and unpinch the nerves everything is fine. I’ve tried my friend’s squishy mattress she is storing at my house and no elbow problem. But still not comfortable to me. So I’m thinking of getting a mattress pad, just not so thick.
I broke my tailbone in high school and to this day it hurts when I sit. Now that my butt is skinny it hurts more often. I got two of these, 1 for work, 1 for home and that helps a lot:
Coop Home Goods - Memory Foam Seat Cushion - Orthopedic Support and Comfort -… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BN37DHU/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_z4zODb13HW4CF
Wow I actually never realised this was a common thing!! I went for months with this problem…thinking it was caused either by doing sit ups in my workouts or sitting at my desk for too long at work!! Makes perfect sense now.
Luckily I put a few extra pounds on lately (skinny didn’t suit me at all) and the problem has gone away.
Congrats to everyone on their weight loss!
Wow, thanks for all of the feedback and ideas for cushions! I have tried to talk to my non keto friends about it and all I hear is I told you that you were too skinny, or you lost too much weight. I am still very curvy, just not like I was. Even with all this backside still it is an issue.
I think it will get better over time as your body adjusts. Or maybe not and this is why stadium cushions were invented, because it is a common enough problem for those who don’t carry their own built in cushion.
I have something similar to that and it worked great. Since starting keto, I don’t need it any more, apparently because inflammation went away. I’m hanging onto it in case I need it again when I get to goal.
I tried lots of different square cushions, but nothing helped until I got the horseshoe shaped one.
Yep it could be inflammation too. I have been adding back in some carbs that may not be helping.
You look terrific. Inflammation from adding too many carbs could indeed play a part in the pain. Best wishes in sorting it all =).
Yep I have the tailbone issue as well. The funny thing is my butt isn’t that tiny, but it is much smaller than it was. Fortunately I have a standing walking job so I only sit at lunch and at home where I can change positions when I need or want.
Not only the tail bones, I can’t stack my knees while sleeping anymore, those really hurt when I do that.
Yea, just need a seat cushion in most of the chairs now. I also find I get cold outside a lot quicker than before.
I started in size 16, now wear 4s as well, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I like the term skinny girl problem too
Wow ,I just read your bio, sounds like me! I am around 145 to 150 pounds, so a bit bigger than you, but still working on it! I feel like a whole new person already!
