Skin rash from erythritol?

#1

Since we have been staying home due to personal/social distancing, I’ve been baking some delicious keto treats for my husband and myself. We normally don’t eat a lot of sweet things, but I thought it would be a nice addition To our meals at this time. After about 2 weeks of enjoying a keto cookie (or two) after dinner, I started developing an itchy rash all over the trunk of my body. The only thing That has changed in these 2 weeks is the addition of erythritol sweetener. Has anyone else gotten a rash from using it?

I just googled and there’s loads of results linking the two so doesn’t seem you’re the only one.

Thank you! I just saw someone’s post in the forum who had experienced the same thing. I guess I won’t be eating any more products or baked goods containing erythritol. It’s not worth it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Lots of people seem to have trouble with it in different ways, many digestive distress. I have a bag in the cupboard that’s been there a couple of years now as I just don’t feel the need to make anything sweet tasting.

I know people who add vanilla to recipes instead of using any sort of sweetener, you might find that works for you as your like of sweet tasting things diminishes.

Vanilla is a good start, I use that myself, it was never enough for me but I never stopped eating sweets (except on my carnivore trials). But heavy cream and sometimes a little rum works better, my eggnog icecream was sweet enough even for me. Unsweetened chocolate is great too - if one is at that point already, I needed several years but I use way, way, way less sweetener than a normal chocolate since the very beginning. And there are other sweeteners, of course but if you aren’t too attached to sweets, it’s probably better not eating them. If one just wants some tasty snack, it needn’t to be sweet, I guess. But it’s very individual. If I have enough meat and my net carb intake is super low, I don’t desire sweets at all. I desire tasty food but I have that and it’s more satisfying than any sweets.
