Hello fellow keto people. So I’ve been keto (strict) since October 2018. Down 40 lbs. couldn’t be happier. I’m teally close to my goal weight with just 10 lbs to go. Past month or two seem to be going real slow. I’m maintaining. Was wondering everyone opinions on stating STRICT keto 6 days, and on the 7th day (a Sunday) maybe have pasta with my family instead of zucchini noodles. I’m NOT saying make my whole day a cheat, but I heard eating some carbs pushes things along. What’s your opinion. I also fast 16/8.
Should I shake it up?
If you want to eat some carbs eat em’, but it won’t make you loose any fat. Yes, you can crap your brains out after a carb-y meal and give the appearance of it but it doesn’t really work that way. The closer you get to your body’s happy weight it’ll fight you. Whether “strict” keto helps or not would be dependent on how (unstrict) you are now. There’s also fasting and PSMF’s. How are you eating now? Are you tracking or eating intuitively?
Great progress! I’m finding that my body is responding with faster weight loss when I mix up my meals/fasting. One day I’ll eat 3xday, next, OMAD, next 24 hour fast, next breakfast and dinner, 24 hour fast, etc. I read here where the body is constantly seeking homeostasis. I think maybe that occurs when we get into an eating routine. For me, I wouldn’t necessarily mess with increasing your carbs.
Have you done a longer fast? I have done a few 42 hours and they are pretty easy actually and I feel great doing them. Lots of energy and kinda throws your body a wake up curve ball type of thing.
I’m very strict. I track macros with carb manager. NEVER had cheat day or meal or snack.
Ok so shake up my plan NOT my carb intake. I also do OMAD. Maybe I’ll shake that up.
Most I’ve went was probably 18 hrs. Don’t think I could do more than that. I weight train with a trainer and as it is I feel my strength decreasing some days.
I have never had a cheat day or a snack, either (not that it may not happen, but so far, no temptation). Another thing, if you’re tracking, I’d go back and review your meals. It doesn’t take long. When I did that, I saw that I could cut down on the dairy a bit and lighten up somewhat on the mayo and dressings once I was further along. I still dress things to my liking, but I was overdoing on my salad, putting it on top of meat, chicken and egg salad with lots of mayo, etc. I still do these things for delicious taste but not to the same degree.
Check out Thomas Delauers YouTube channel. I just watched one about fasting and weight training. Very interesting about 20-24 hours and growth hormone increases 1300x for women from study done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=441jBOb29YE
Great advice… have to revamp my meal planning. I’ll give it a go. I also read to decrease dairy when at a stall.
Him and Dr Berg are great. I like him because he is super informative and in amazing shape!
I love that we all like different stuff… vive la difference! I can’t stand Lebauer (he just annoys the crap out of me), and having understood Berg’s scientology links, I am not a fan of his either. Berg always used to creep me out, but I couldn’t put my finger on why. It kinda made sense when I heard about his scientology links.
Berg is a little creepy and his voice is as well! LOL has worked for me and I am not interested in dating him. haha Didn’t know he was a scientologist but doesn’t matter to me as well because I have learned a tremendous amount from him. Delauer is a bit to scientific but he know what he is doing and what he is talking about. Proof is in the pudding.
Yes, a day that you eat some extra carbs is fine. It is one of many different things you can do to avoid lipostasis. You will only know if it works if you try it, and there is no chance of either detrimental readaptation or fat gain. There is no need to develop a carb phobia, occasional carbs are fine.
Keep an eye on your results as it relates to OMAD, me and the wife did 16:8 for a while and then started OMAD to bump up results, we never had issues being stalled out before that, then we both were and couldn’t break it to save our lives. She never had any metabolic testing before but I did probably around a year prior and my RMR at the time was like 2400cals/RMR, literally just did one again last week and it was at 1700cals/RMR. I also lift weights 4x week and cardio 2 of my 3 off days from lifting. I REALLY shouldn’t have a slowed RMR! But I do. I blame the OMAD, people say that’s not supposed to happen, constant change will prevent it, we did all of that, both have the same end result. This will be the second time I’ve had to rebuild my metabolism, wasn’t worth it.
Are you guys close to goal? They say the last 10 are the hardest. I love the intermittent fasting but your right, shortly after starting OMAD, it’s been sloooow. I’m going to go back on my logs and repeat a week from the first couple of logs. I guess at this point it’s about experimenting with my new body. How are you guys doing now? Did you stop OMAD?
Search “keto Roulette”. Helped me drop my last little bit. Takes a little work to get setup but it’s one and done. One thing I have found as well is when I go on a vacation weekend and all the rules are out the window (beer, tacos, pasta, etc) as long as I am strict moving forward from there my set weight tends to go down. It’s almost like that weekend is enough to shake things up.
I did OMAD and stalled. I calculated my RMR and looked at my diet and realized I was eating way too little. I ramped up my calories and have started losing again. I don’t really count calories, but I kind of make a mental note of what I’m eating and if it seems like I haven’t had enough I’ll eat more or make a fatty drink. I’d go back to two meals a day, as I really have to stuff myself sometimes, but OMAD fits my schedule really well.
Unfortunately not, I’m about 30lbs from goal and wife is around the same. What really sucks is I was 20lbs lighter than this during the whole deal. No more fasting for us minus when we just don’t have enough time to eat. I’ve found eating more meals seems to keep everything moving along better. Considering a PSMF though, seems to play by a different set of rules.
