Sharp Rise in Glucose After Fasts

(Cancer Fighting Ketovore :)) #1

I’m wondering if anyone here has a dramatic rise in glucose after refeeding after a fast. I’ve noticed that my glucose will go up a whole lot after eating, especially if it is low to start with.
As an example, before supper tonight my glucose was 52 (via CGM). Around 2 hours later it was reading 91 via CGM. I did not have a substantial amount of carbs.

  • Yes, it goes up a lot
  • No, it doesn’t go up much
  • Don’t know, don’t test

I have never tested so I have no idea.

Of course one of the chemo agents I was given can raise glucose, so… However it is a tend I’ve noticed, regardless of chemo.

I have noticed a brief elevation in glucose levels after an extended fast… usually goes away again after a couple of days back to “usual” levels. As I get really low levels when fasting I kind of look at it as a re-adjustment period for my body which has slower reactions during the fast.

Mine goes back to “normal”, which is near/around/above 100 in the mornings then down to say 80 or so at night. This morning’s numbers, which are 32 hours fasted, then a 45 minute workout, then showering, getting to work, taking the second test;

The first column after the time is my home Keto Mojo, the next is work Keto Mojo, then ketonix (still warming up) and blood sugar by pinprick and Free Style Libre (don’t have 14 day sensors yet). Will eat in a few hours.

Even if I don’t workout, my blood sugar rises dramatically after eating, and ketones likely plummet too.

Let me rephrase that last sentence. Since my ketones are so low (all the time, really), I have to fast a long time to have higher ketones. If I fast say 4.5 days, my ketones will get to about 2, but they immediately drop and my blood sugar rises.

But I’ve been doing this almost 6 years, so I’m not going to be a good example.
