Shake diet offered on NHS to fight type 2 diabetes

Dread to think what’s in these things… :grimacing:

They say they will re-introduce solid food after whenever…

We know these types of “diets” are not sustainable…

@OldDog

Adult milk bottles are perfectly sustainable for big babies. :slightly_smiling_face:

Would you prefer a doctor telling these people to cut off their arms?

No

It’s a way to take away bad choices from people with food addictions. Sort of like going carnivore but without the nutrition. The soups and shakes look easy. The article talks about calories and low calories. That sniffs like the maintenance of nutrient deficiencies. The aim is low daily caloric intake. I think around here that is called fasting.

Need straw?

Not at all … the doctor will be cutting off their feet even after the starvation especially as we all know crash diets do not lead to sustainable weight loss.

It’s basically doctor prescribed Slimfast.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #9

I remember that back in the early days of the AIDS epidemic, we used to boost the caloric intake of wasting patients by giving them those so-called “diet” shakes that were on the market at the time. They were loaded with sugar, so were palatable to someone with no appetite. The caloric supplements Ensure and Sustical came on the market a year or two later, and I believe their sugar content is similar.
