Seriously?!

I’m just disgusted.

A relative of mine just had cardiac bypass surgery. He’s now recovering while eating jello and the typical hospital faire. They’ve put him on insulin because it has been shown to enhance recovery.

According to his medical record he’s “not diabetic”. Not sure they’ve looked very hard, but that is beside the point.

Is anyone familiar with this approach to recovery? Is there a scientific basis for it?

Hospital food sadly still mirrors the SAD. I wasn’t too surprised to recently learn that there are even some fast food establishments inside of hospitals.

In one survery: more than 80,000 hospital meals are left uneaten every day and two-thirds of staffers admit they would not themselves eat what they serve up to patients!

Many of the articles I just glanced at say that surgery creates stress on the body and that leads to higher levels of blood glucose and greater insulin resistance. It sounds like a perfect opportunity to sell more statins to me and maybe this causes more harm than it actually helps us?

Apparently it’s the standard of care these days. My mother was given insulin prophylactically after a mitral-valve replacement. I had to refuse a dose on her behalf before they would explain why they were giving it to her. I didn’t see that it was doing her any good, but they swore it was, and I didn’t know any better, back in those days.
