Over the years, my weight had grown from the 130s in my twenties to the 190s in my early 70s. I was sedentary and frustrated. No diets worked and hadn’t worked in decades until I made lifestyle changes which included low carb eating and daily exercise.(i walk 3 miles each day.) I am now 73. My weight is 149, a gradual loss that started 7 months ago when I started keto. My approach is to keep good habits going for the long term. Therefore, I don’t expect a steady weight loss, and I do expect fluctuations. Now I have much more energy and flexibility. I see no reason why my weight loss will not continue over time. Keto has been the solution for me.

Other septuagenarians, what has been your experience?

I want your loss!. I’m creeping up on your age. Tell me more about your jouney. This is so valuable because you’re female and post menopausal.

Hello. Back when I started in January, my husband joined me in the weight loss attempt for the first time. In the past, I had tried low carb diets, but that is what they were - diets. I finally realizedt that I must make a total lifestyle change as did he. I stayed off the scale for the first month. When I did check my weight, there was a modest reduction - a pound or two. He had similar results. Over the next three months, I dropped another 12 pounds. Then it all stopped. At that time, a remembered the experience of a friend from the year before.

She had been given a dire diagnosis - Alzheimers disease. Her specialist told her she could delay the symptoms by walking 3 miles a day and eating low carb. Over the first year, she lost 50 pounds and saw no cognitive loss. Once I committed to adding a three mile daily walk to my routine, the pounds started dropping. Walking is not hard on the joints and is not likely to lead to injuries, so if you are able, I highly recommend it.

Lot of arthritis in my feet, but sounds like the ticket!

I’m 69, have been maintaining my weight loss for over a year now. I had yoyoed since my early 30s. When I started keto I had yoyoed back up to 170, not my highest weight but not one I wanted to continue living with, so I started with Atkins 20 Foodie meal plan. Found the 2dudes podcasts and haven’t looked back since. I have been walking atleast 10K for a couple of years, I kept that up, but ended up dropping down to 5K daily last winter due to life and weather. I’m back to 10K steps daily now.

I really get frustrated with women who say, I’m too old to loss weight. You are never too old to do it.

LCHF/keto/fasting has become my lifestyle and I love it and can’t think of any reason to change it again.
