Dariush Mozaffarian, MD participated in writing the goals of the 2020 Strategic Impact Goals.

Here’s some of his thinking and insight we might expect to see in 2020. I found some of it encouraging and some of it made me shake my head. I suppose I should be content that some change in current recommendations is on the horizon, since my expectations from the AHA are pretty low.

These are the USDA guidelines and the committee has not yet been selected. This letter is to Sonny Purdue, Secretary of Agriculture as it is deliberated. These guidelines have an impact on the food served in military, schools, nursing homes, etc.

And if someone could explain how to be sure a preview of the link is visible, I would certainly appreciate it. With previous posts, a link would show a title, photo, a few lines of article in a box. Recently that has not happened.

I’m just pointing out what the AHA is also up to in 2020.

I’ve noticed this too. I would also like to understand why the preview feature is bypassed.

It’s just the forum software that is wonky, as far as I can tell. I’ve been trying to work it out for months.

Once I got it to work by changing the (copied) link from http to https, so I dunno.

I figured that was the case. Thanks for confirming.

It’s just me guessing, but I have tested it a LOT. So it’s anecdotal, but with a decent evidence base.

It depends on the source you are linking to, to a great extent, but there is occasionally something else happening. I’ve made posts where one YouTube link will show correctly, and a second one—that other times has worked just fine—will show only as a URL.

Thank you all. Reassurance that it is not only my own technical bumbling. Giving it a second chance: https://www.dietdoctor.com/boring-but-important-help-change-the-dietary-guidelines

I don’t think we’re beating this drum loudly enough. It took me 5 minutes to submit my comments.

We need more cow-bell

We’re not even at one thousand petitioners. That’s too low:

With just a few weeks before USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue is expected to select members for the expert committee that will determine the 2020 Dietary Guidelines, close to a thousand Americans wrote to ask Perdue to please choose a balanced committee that will represent up-to-date views of the most rigorous available science. Also, many believe the committee needs an expert in evidence-based policy who understands the difference between weak science (epidemiology) and strong (clinical trials). Why the need for this push? We’ve heard that USDA bureaucrats who’ve overseen the same one-size-fits-all guidelines for decades are not—understandably—amenable to change. Nominee applications that our group has supported have reportedly been “lost” or passed over. It’s not too late to add your voice—and make a difference . This post explains why and how to lend your voice to this effort.
