Second day on Keto. Care to look at my log today and tweak it for me?

I personally never count leafy greens and cruciferous, peppers, non-starchy’s etc. as a carb. I eat as much as I want! Never count them unless you want to feel like your starving to death…lol

MCT’s are not really necessary as long as you are cutting the sugar (what keto really is) that’s all you need to do! Unless your on a quest to burn dietary fats? If your not trying to burn body fat then bottoms up on the MCT oil, coffee has very little chlorogenic acid (helps burn body fat), not unless you can get the raw green Arabian strains?

A little bit of fat and protein in the diet is all that is needed!

Eat an equal amount of fish omega 3’s that are marine based with those omega 6’s and your good on anti-inflammation!

Very simple if your thyroid is working well!

By the way, @Sswannafixme don’t let our tweaking the details fool you. Indeed, it’s your chance to find out what works best for you. Even though @CarlKeller is tragically misnformed on net carbs (just kidding, folks) his advice is solid, as is @x-Dena-x, @David_Stilley, @jessOTR, and @atomicspacebunny.

There’s plenty of room in low-carb land. You have to find your happy spot, that’s all.

Well the way I see it, is I’m accounting for all of this fat my liver is having to process. Glucosinolate which is found in cruciferous veggies, helps the liver produce detoxing enzymes, they also contain sulpher which helps the liver detox itself. And the chlorophyll found in the veggies helps to suck out the toxins from the blood stream so we can dispose of them. Also leafy greens help neutralize heavy metals which are very toxic to our livers.

I feel at this time, my liver is working overtime and needs all the help it can get. The more leafy greens I put it me, the better my liver works, the better my liver works, the more fat it can process. The more fat it can process, the happier I will be

EDIT: The more leafy greens I can put in me, the better my liver works… SO LONG AS I STAY IN MY 20g CARBS OR LESS RANGE. Felt I had to add that.

And easily enough, really.

On everything!

I know you only jest but I have tried both net and total. :stuck_out_tongue: I can say for me the difference in hunger is minimal but net is a little less stressful if you obsess about carb counts (too much) like I used to. I did like that total held me more accountable with my food choices in the beginning. It made me become very conscious of what I eat and I would liken it to keto bootcamp. After bootcamp was over, this WOE was a breeze.

100% agree. IMO, one of keto’s greatest NSVs is understanding my relationship with food and how my choices affect that relationship.

I’ve always been curious about the Bergism that suggests not to count vegetable carbs in crucifers and leafy greens and how it might affect me. And while I do enjoy vegetables, I’m content with a few cups a day.

You’re probably right. I still believe the rumors that you are a good writer and cook.

Easily fooled!

This isn’t really directed at you Dena but your post was the one that inspired me go ahead and weight in.

MCT OIL, I don’t use it but I think it’s like any other fat other than the fact that when it hits your liver it is effortless for your liver to convert it into ketones.

So it’s like the keto equivalent of pure glucose. It’s not working your liver like bacon fat or others when they are processed by your liver more energy is used and it’s a slower process to convert the fat to ketones. I have no idea how this affects weight loss for sure but I have seen it referenced as helpful in proper amounts.

I think this is why people like it in morning coffee. It’s like a keto energy drink with it instant ketones from MCT and the slower released ketones from the butter giving some lasting energy.

That being said you can take a spoonful straight if you’re feeling foggy brained or have something important that’s going to need absolute focus. Like a doctors appointment or an important meeting.

It also probably has some use with athletic performance but @Screenack is definitely more of an expert on that.

I have a 24 year old autistic son who I just started on keto about a week ago. I did some reading elsewhere looking for information about how to do this and found a study for autistic children doing a ketogenic diet supplemented with MCT oil to help with mental clarity. A significant percentage were able to adapt to the diet and had significant cognitive improvements. I intend to try giving him some when he’s having a particularly bad day to see if it helps.

On the bulletproof coffee…I find it overly expensive personally. I’ve always used coffee booster even prior to keto, now I do two scoops instead of one since I no longer fear the fat! They have some varieties but my favorite is the regular which is pre mixed grass fed ghee butter, coconut oil and cacao powder. I also add a little salt to my coffee and just recently collagen peptides.
