Seatopia

If you like fish, you might like Seatopia. I listened to a podcast with a guy who I think started this company. Unfortunately, I don’t remember on which podcast it was, so I can’t link to it. But the fish is farm-raised, and they use feed that has very little to no heavy metals or other contaminants in it.

I do not use this service because (1) I’m not that fond of fish and (2) it’s a subscription service. So, I’ve never ordered from here.

I would order from here if I liked fish enough to get it regularly delivered, though. Or at least I’d try it.

I’m all for clean stuff…BUT, it’s close to non existent. I eat a lot of Tuna, mainly because I like it, also because it’s awesome protein for the cals and while I do like the higher end Tonno, that craps $4+ a can, so the majority is normal Bumble Bee “dirty” Tuna. Know what my mercury levels are? ZERO! Every time I’ve been tested over the years…ZERO!

People are way too quick to pay more to avoid something that’s probably not happening in the first place. Same thing with the Fresh Caught vs Farmed fish. Farmed fish minus a few select areas are less likely to have problems because those waters are sectioned off and very much monitored. Can’t do that in the middle of the ocean. Then supplemental feed can come into it so it’s not a guarantee either, but the people making WAY more money for fresh caught would have you beleive “farmed” fish means fish in tanks in warehouses vs what it is in real life which is just netted off waters minus when they’re pulled out and transported around, which that’s the same exact thing either way.

Kinda like “elephant repellent”.

(I’ve worn my elephant repellent today and it must be working cause I haven’t seen a single elephant all day long!  )

I like a good piece of fish. I don’t get it too often, though. The thing that generally puts me off is the words on the label, “product of China”. Though I’m sure there are wonderful people in China, I don’t trust what comes to these (US) shores with that label.

Found it. I had to do a general search:

In this, he talks about bringing people out to where the farms are. I seem to remember it looks like … the ocean. You don’t even know the fish are being farmed.

I tried to eat fish one year on Fridays for Lent. I found that fish did not fill me up. Eggs were a lot better. I’m not sure why.
