Science Compared Every Diet, and The Winner is Real Food

Interesting read, I’d like to see more information on how they really compared each of the diets.

Thoughts? This makes me think of my boyfriend and I, who have drastically different metabolisms. He can handle carbs in much higher doses than I and does not have drastic body changes. It’s been a great model to me that while keto seems right for me, it’s not one size fits all.

There is a direct link to the study in the article, which has a downloadable PDF which contains additional citations for conclusions drawn.

One issue is the definition of low carb - low carb high protein - in one of the citations used. We already know that that can cause problems because it also implies low fat (or maybe moderate fat). Dont have time to take a deeper look so that is something Ill have to sit down and dig through.

Ill bookmark this thread and see if I can go through it in detail when I get home.

As for one size fits all I definitely agree. I cannot tolerate carbs for sure, metabolic issues, cvd and diabetes and depression in the family, my joints ache and my mood plummets if I eat them not to mention weight.
My best friend however, a Kurdish dude whose parents were born in Iran, can mainline fruit and beans and bread and the occasional smoothie or ice cream. His blood sugar is good, he is thin, he has no bodily or mental pains, his cholesterol/trigs are good, all markers on bloodwork and real life tests come up clean.
I dont suggest keto to him because - likely due to genetics - he can tolerate that higher carb lifestyle whereas I cannot.

You can even see that people with different genetic backgrounds are more likely to get diabetes, heart disease, depression, lactose intolerance, celiac, etc
There is a reason for that: adaptive survival in differing environments from their ancestors. And that is only ONE component to the whole thing.

So yes, we are all special snowflakes, BUT the important thing to get out is not “different diets dont work” but “different diets (lifestyles) will work differently for different people with different diseases and difficulties”
