Scale and Non-scale Family Victories

The keto WOE began for me after almost 6 months of research/reading to understand what my oldest son was doing. He had lost 90 pounds over the last 1.5 years and is completely committed to keto. Of course the science of it all appealed to me and made complete sense. So I have been keto now for 6 months and have gone from 175# to 150# and lost a total of 20 inches throughout my torso. Talk about a huge nsv! Past issues with not wanting to cook one meal for myself and another for my other son and husband were a huge problem. But they both were happy to get on board and have been equally successful. My husband has lost 20 # and my son 22#. My husband is more of the lazy keto group and has found that just cutting out the sugar has given him the biggest health improvement overall. (Although he won’t consider stopping his statin) Having their support and involvement helped get me off to a great start. Just wanted to share our family success and thank this group for the extra support and information, which is especially important to me because I do not have the support and understanding of my PCP at all.

Great news and progress!

Shame about the statin. Maybe in time he will ditch it. Make sure he watches for signs of diabetes or pre-diabetes as statins are good for leading people there.

I agree Matt. He was having some weird foot pain at night and diabetes has crossed my mind. He’s a pretty lean guy (and I am trying to keep my weight below his!) 5’10" and now 162#, but his family history of heart disease worries him. He isn’t a science nerd like me, so the cholesterol studies don’t convince him.

Sadly lean does not mean healthy. I was never big. I got up to 204 at 6 feet and got diagnosed with Diabetes and metabolic syndrome. I have fixed everything with Keto and now I am at about 170.

Stay the course and maybe he will see the light!

Next time your husband has blood work done, perhaps the doctor can be persuaded to include HbA1C, especially given his concern with familial heart disease.
