Salt Salt Salt - HELP!

#1

My body hates salt. I retain a lot of fluid. Currently I take 40mg of Fureosimide (water pill) twice a day. The negative effects are counteracted with two high dose potassium pills. (I don’t remember the dosage amount). Even though I take this large amount of diuretics daily, I STILL retain a lot of fluid.

With this being said, I’m cramping so bad at night. There is no way possible I’m able to add salt to my diet. I did read somewhere by adding a magnesium supplement, it can help. I just started taking 200mg nightly, and will increase this to two times daily in a few days as the bottle suggested.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m not looking for any type of medical advice. I will definitely talk to my doctor about this at my next scheduled appointment which is in a couple of months. He’s big into cross fit, so I’m sure he’s familiar with keto.

Have you been keto for long? Everything I’ve read said cramps are either salt or magnesium related so fingers crossed yours is the magnesium.

Any chance you can pop in & talk to your local pharmacist? I find them very approachable & helpful on the issue of drug side effects & interactions though they may of course suggest you see your doctor sooner.

I’m asking this question without knowing anything about diuretics; but keto, itself, is very diuretic. Maybe on keto, you might not need that medication?

Where’s your magnesium?

Edited: Oh, wait. Sorry. I see now that you are taking it.

Increase until bowel tolerance (until you get loose stools) and then back down one pill. That will be your customized dose.

What’s your daily carb limit? Carbs definitely cause the body to retain fluids, not just salt. If you get your carbs low enough, you may not need the diuretics any longer.
