hello all. i’m wondering if this ranch dressing would be considered keto-friendly? im not sure about some of the ingredient names, and the fact that sugar is one of the first 3 items listed under ingredients alarms me a bit. also, is 1g of sugar in my dressing portion okay per day? is that enough to potentially kick someone out of ketosis who’s following the diet strictly? i don’t consume very much sugar at all aside from what’s in this dressing, which i do enjoy. but if this seems like a bad ranch dressing option and anyone has any recommendations of other keto-friendly ranch dressings / dressings in general with better ingredients / no sugar, id love to hear them! ideally, something you can buy at a target or a walmart is what i’m looking for. but if this dressing i’m currently using seems acceptable on keto, then ill stick with it! thanks in advance.
Salad dressing okay?
The nutrition panel looks OK, but I really do not like soybean oil. IMHO it’s nasty stuff. And it’s listed first.
I try to avoid products with sugar (that doesn’t mean I never make exceptions for convenience if the total carbs are low enough). I’ve seen recipes for homemade ranch dressing that people have posted on the forum.
Red Wine or White Wine Vinegar
And it’s Cheap😍
(or ACV as well)
You can just add olive oil perhaps or ur fav seasonings, dried or fresh
Maybe a dash of lemon juice
For me, I like the taste of vinegar - a lot😄
So it’s Red and White Wine vinegar mixed -straight up, w some pink salt
Good Luck
thanks! i started keto in late august of this year and am still learning about which ingredients are good versus not so good on the diet, so tips like that really help!
those are great ideas! i already have white wine vinegar and olive oil at home. maybe i’ll go out and buy some red wine vinegar tomorrow and try some experimenting… thanks for the suggestions!
I would be happy to eat it as far as the carbs are concerned. I would be less keen on the soybean oil.
I have the same issue with mayo as most commercial mayos are rapeseed oil. I found one the other day on amazon which is avocado oil and all other natural ingredients, but I really don’t like the taste so this weekend and I am going to make my own with avocado oil and see if that is any better.
I have about 1.5 tablespoons of blue cheese dressing a day, as a condiment with my meat. Also very low carb like your ranch label. As long as it fits enjoy!
I personally try to avoid the commercial dressings. I have really “cleaned up” my eating (for the most part). My personal go to is either olive oil and balsamic or avocado oil or ACV and I’ll sometimes add herbs, a little garlic.
The serving size on the Ranch you showed was only 2 tablespoons. For me if I’m eating a thicker dressing, 2T is not going very far. So think about how much you are actually using.
I also avoid soybean oil. It’s not the end of the world if you choose to use that dressing but it’s probably not the healthiest choice.
Try and Find one of these and before you know it you wont even need to look at it, you will just know how much of this and how much of that and the best bit is you start to make up your own to your liking. I just replace any sugar or sweetener with some Salt.
I eat commercial ranch, but I don’t really feel good about it. I’ve made homemade Keto ranch a few times - just herbs, cream, mayo, maybe some sour cream. And salt.
I have different requirements for salad dressing depending on my salad. If it’s a side salad I don’t mind a vinegar and olive oil sort of dressing. If it’s my whole meal, as it often is at lunchtime, I don’t want my whole meal to be vinegary.
I tried a salad dressing called primal it had not sugar and was made with avocado oil
Is non-GMO soybean oil any better? That’s what they use in Marie’s dressings. And Marie’s has no sugar.
I have also tried the primal brand. It is pretty tasty without all the nasty ingredients. I just never seem to get the ratios correct when making a oil vinegar dressing. On the rare occasion I have a salad I just use this.
I think it’s okay for first level keto, if you maintain portion control.
I’d be most concerned about ingredient #1, soybean oil.
