Sad mini conversation at work

(Todd Allen) #21

Skipping breakfast or any meal can be challenging if one isn’t first going keto or at least low carb.

but they don’t want to eat in the morning…they’re only doing it because it’s what they’re “supposed” to do or their doc said to…

But to be honest, I do understand. People are intimidated.
Since 25+ years I have been told I am doing it wrong and that I ruined my body and health by my wrong eating. Of course I deserve all that results from that, including all sorts of pain and an earlier death, simply because I did not listen to my doctor!

Thats branded onto fat peoples forehead- its all your fault, because you did not listen!!! And if you did what the docs said and it did not work it was still your fault, because for sure you been cheating and not followed the orders in some way.

People just want to do the “right” thing and got told (probably from when they are kids) to listen to the doctors because the have obviously prooven (the patients) that they are useless to have an own judgment on food or their bodies or they would not be fat in the first place.

Fat people took so much in their lifes so that they don’t dare to argue anymore. They carry so much blame because they get told that they themselves got themselves into their bad state and therefore should obey and don’t dare to think and to argue.

So I find its terribly sad … because I know these fears and struggles as well

I was assured in all solemnity by a pesco-vegetarian sibling of mine the other day that I absolutely must not skip breakfast. I bit my tongue. To be fair, a few years ago this might have been the advice I also handed out.

Unfortunately, I forgot the clever answer (I think this was the way Jimmy Morre put it): “I agree: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I just disagree about when I should eat it” - or something like that. He might have put it more neatly.

“There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.” Will Rogers

This is so true. Growing up, one of my siblings would get in trouble for something and I would think “I won’t do THAT, and then I will stay out of trouble”. Over the years, I have avoided much trouble by reading and observing. I find learning by peeing on the electric fence is much more painful than learning from another’s mistake. That being said, one of my children is of the mind that life must be experienced fully. He MUST pee on the electric fence, so to speak, or he is missing out on some part of life. Aren’t we all just wonderful individuals!

Everyone I know thought I was crazy, I lost 40 pounds in about 3 months and my wife converted. 2 months after that her first friend did, another of my friends, another of hers, 2 more asked for materials to get started yesterday. When people see the changes they want to join.

What every person says when they here is “there is no way I can do without x” and “what can you eat, you must starve” and a few weeks in they don’t crave any of that stuff and are amazed that they aren’t hungry. Friends last night were worried they would miss things, I made burgers with bacon and cheddar inside, more bacon and cheddar on top, and a fried egg on top of that. They didn’t miss the bun.

I have seen a few beginner things out there but a lot of people just want a few rules not the deep science, I think I am gonna make a keto for dummies I can give out.

Me (un)fortunately.

I used to get that all the time on the WLS pages when I said sugar was bad for you and you need to ct back on refined carbs. Well I’ll go with what my surgical team says as they are the experts and have thousands of hours of training. Okey dokey!

I made one like this for my family. It goes down a lot better than long science explanations. Just a few rules, a few “what to expects” and a few “what if’s”. Then I add links to the science at the end (in case they sent it anywhere else for verification).
