Sabotaged At A Restaurant!

#1

I’ve been keto now (again) for about 7 days and was feeling pretty well adapted. Didn’t need to eat by the 5 hour mark anymore, but only went up to 8 or 12 when sleeping. Except for today. Ate a good lunch at Golden Corral consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage, broccoli, green beans with a ton of butter on the side. Here about 5 hours later I’m anxious and extremely irritable.

These are my typical symptoms of my blood sugar starting to drop when not in ketosis. I don’t even know which food was spiked. So, I just ate dinner and already feel better. I’m pretty angry and feel I’ve been sabotaged.

Has something like this happened to anyone else?

Well done on your first week.

You are only 7 days in so weird stuff is to be expected. Could be that the bacon and sausage had more hidden carbs than you would think and we don’t know if you were heavy on the meat and light on the veg or vice versa. If it was the latter you might have just under-eaten. Remember - it’s still only 7 days in and KCKO!

I’ve been keto for about 7-8 months, we just a little break recently and I’m a bit of a nut about the protein/fat balance and macros so I’m 100% something was spiked.

Golden Corral strikes me as the type of place that buys litterally the cheapest food that they can, which means lots of fillers!! Sausage can be very sneaky because some cheap brands put sugar/ HFCS in them to give them a sweet, maple flavor. You never know what they do to make food taste better… like adding sugar to just about everything!

Yeah, definitely won’t be going back.

Eggs at restaurants of low quality can have a ton of hidden carbs. IHOP adds pancake batter to omelettes to help them be fluffy. Golden Corral strikes me as the type of place that might engage in similar chicanery.

Congrats on getting back into the swing of things. Some chain restaurants definitely add fillers. It’s what their sugar addicted customers want. It wasn’t their intention to “sabatoge” you. I’d just KCKO. You’ll recover fine. While it may have been more carbs than you thought I doubt it was enough to knock you off for more than today. You’d have tasted it otherwise.

My money is on the sausage and “butter”. Stay away from golden corral man, I know in theory is should be great but that’s not real food! I got one 2 streets away and it always smells awesome, I keep my ass outta that place!

Low priced “food” is low priced for a reason. Real food actually costs more, it’s not just to make you feel better about yourself (spending money= being a better person, right?). Side note: IHOP and Village Inn are sketchy or out, but omelets are usually a great bet for meat veggies eggs and cheese

We talked about this in the “hidden carbs” thread - about IHOP putting pancake batter in their omelettes to fluff them up. In any restaurant, you can request an omelette with “shelled eggs” & no filler. And ask for real butter.

I just posted above about IHOP putting pancake batter in eggs. They are not good. Sneaky pikers.

Crap! I wish I had read this thread before ordering here at IHOP.

I thought I was doing good ordering their cheeseburger omelet w/o pancakes. First I discover has browns in the middle where not mentioned on the menu. We can eat around them.

And now I read they add pancake batter!!! Grrr… guess I’ll eat the hamburger and cheese and go lightly on the eggs.

Just ask for shelled eggs no filler and they’ll make you a real omelette, but it won’t be as fluffy because they cook eggs too fast.
