WTF ABOUT HOLLANDAISE??!!???

(AnnaLeeThal) #22

Hollandaise gets a pass…as in pass it over here!

(8 year Ketogenic Veteran) #23

Bearnaise??

You might want to be careful with chinese. Alot of places actually marinate their meat in a sugary water so you might want to ask as you order.

(I want abs... olutely all the bacon) #25

At Jimmy John’s ask for a gluten-sensitive unwhich, they are supposed to put on fresh gloves and one individual makes your wrap; this should keep the chances of picking up extra carbs low. I’m gluten-sensitive and spend too much time in the bathroom if it’s not made this way or if it has their cheese or sauces.

At McDonalds, I really enjoy getting egg McMuffins with no muffin. Their sausage is far more flavorful than their burgers and they use fresh eggs. It really adds an element of tastiness to a McMountain.

+1 on the Wendys. I love me a good ol bunless baconator with extra mayo.

You can hang at Arby’s as well if you stick to the basics. Here’s their meal builder:

Across the board at Fast Food, and now even sit-down restaurants, you’ll need to remember to BYOB. Bring your own butter! They all serve margarine or some type of oil spread. Only at IKEA have I found real butter! I do get some funny looks bringing butter to top by Arby’s Giant Roast Beef with no bun

Here in CT, we have Moe’s Southwest Grill which is similar to Chipotle. I get the salad no shell/rice/beans, steak (which is grassfed!) with cheese, sour cream, cilantro, cukes, pico, olives and add guacamole (made daily on site) for $1. According to my glucometer, this is an awesome meal choice!

(Julie Pegler) #29

I’ve been wanting to try this FOREVER!! lol someday!

@Jonesy
I love Moes. We don’t have one where we currently live, but we used to go all the time. There’s a ton of those “mexican subway” style burrito places (qdoba, chipotle, moes, etc… ) and they are all great.

I enjoy Five Guys’s bunless bacon burger:

Know this is older, but where are the hidden carbs? I often eat here and think I’m doing ok

Late to the topic:

Taco Bell : Power Bowl Chicken, add ground beef, no rice, no beans, side of queso on top. Not perfect, but in a pinch not bad! I think 14 g carbs total.

Chipotle: Salad, no dressing (sugar alert), no beans, no rice, double meat, sour cream, cheese, pico, half guac.

Chic-fil-A: I just order their 12 piece nuggets with ranch. Also, not perfect, but not bad in a pinch. 15-16 g carb total depending on how many 1g carb dressings you use.

Also, if you go direct to the nutritionix website, they have good restaurant calculators where you can customize your order including taco bell, chipotle, subway and kfc. Also, Chic fil A has good nutrition info on their website too.

Also, if I know I am going out, I plan my meal ahead of time.

When it comes to hidden carbs, there are lots of potential sources. Could be marinades that use sugar, corn starch used to thicken sauces, etc.

Personally, I don’t fret too much about this when it comes to a single meal out, but if I was eating someplace on a regular basis (i.e. more than once a week), I’d want to do some sleuthing on their website to see if I could get exact information on what goes into the various menu items.

My favorite is a place called The Habit (this may be CA only). A cobb salad, no dressing is amazing. Lots of really good bacon and blue cheese and guacamole. And speaking of guacamole - bunless cheeseburger in a bowl + guacamole =

#36

Also in CA here. So I know what you’re talking about. I love places that aren’t afraid to throw a little fat on it.

#37

I rarely eat fast food and there are no Jimmy Johns, Arbys or In and Outs in my area.

I do have a friend that takes me to Panera sometimes. I have been getting the Goddess Salad or something like that. They have a binder with all the carb counts of their items and that had among the lowest, something like 17g which while not great is ok once a month

(Amy Miller Bowman) #38

One serving of ground beef has 4 carbs 2 from sugar

Queso has 3. Likely corn starch. Malodextrin and other thickeners

Coming in late to this topic, but hey, if one person reads it, all that more for the fun…
Anyhoo, my wife and I tried out the Poke (Pronounce Po-Kay) bowl at Tokyo Joe’s for the past two days, and wow!!
Build your own Poke bowl, pick the lowest of cals and carbs…
Pick 2 of (Sushi style salmon. Spicy Tuna and Shrimp).
Lay it on salad greens no rice (duh)
Add sweet onions, avocado, and cucumber cubes.
Traditional Hawaiian dressing.
Top it off with Jalapenos, chopped Macadamia nuts and green onions sprinkles.

Viola, ya got a tasty, non-boring, low carb keto dish.
Don’t forget to take it outside and get some sun while your eating!!

Today is the first time I’ve eaten out since starting the Keto WOL. Friends were going to Jason’s Deli and I tagged along. I selected the salad bar and it was a very enjoyable meal. They had quality olive oil which wasn’t rancid! They also had several oil-based items such as artichoke hearts, green olives, kalamata black olives, and those oil-brined peppers. There was also a high-quality feta cheese! It was very enjoyable food and I easily stayed within my macros just eyeballing portions–though I did significantly frustrate the dude standing behind me with my “portioning” lol!
