When I started back with aerobic exercise on my air bike I was breathing easy, heart rate reletively low but quads were on fire, as though I was strength training. My perception was that the muscle was not getting enough blood supply to deliver oxygen and fuel for the work. I presumed lack of capillaries because of neglect. Not a good situation, can it be reversed? The answer, in my case, is yes. I believe the situation was improved by two years of low to medium intensity training, lots of volume, lots of patience. I do some lifting too, may be that helps. Diet alone can’t do that. Even walking alone seems to be effective. I walked 2 hours a day during the 6 warm months last year. Resting HR declined from the low 60’s to the low 50’s.
