Recovery from Surgery w keto docs

(Jeanette Villanueva) #1

I was pleasantly surprised - my surgeon and anesthesiologist both recommended i switch to a low carb diet before my ankle surgery. They said I would have less inflammation and probably recover quicker. I laughed and let them know i follow a Keto way of life. IT was amazing finding docs that totally support this WOL. And before i went into surgery i made enough entrees for 30 meals! Yup i gotta stay Keto so planning is oh so important.

Wow, Jeanette, that’s wonderful news.
It’s always great to hear about keto friendly doctors!

I had foot surgery a few weeks ago and have minimal inflammation. I went on a work trip about 4 weeks after the op and went off keto for 2 days and my foot swelled like crazy. Far worse that it had been even straight after the surgery.
As soon as I got home and went back to keto the swelling went down and hasn’t come back.

THANK you for sharing that. I am being very strict while sitting here. I’m non weight bearing right now so really can’t do much. I also had a client tell me if I stayed Keto it would help me greatly. And with your email it gives me hope. My block should be wearing off over the next 12-15 hours.

Update I had no pain! I am Keto and have a compromised liver. So I really can’t take nsaids or pain pills. Well I received a 72 hour block and with being Keto no inflammation. I saw The surgeon 3 days after the surgery and he was impressed. No extra swelling or inflammation. Plus the fact that i havent haf any pain. This is amazing! Still non weight bearing and in a cast now but so dang hopeful that I will be hiking and dancing again next spring,

Hi Jeanette, May I get a bit more information about your condition please. I am in a similar situation but right now I am struggling to get my bilirubin under control. My biliary ducts do not seem to work. Any tips and suggestions would be helpful. Thank u.

Hi Jeanette

I have auto immune hepatitis with stage 4 cirrhosis. I got diagnosed with primary biliary cirrhosis at the end of last year. Now I am on a transplant pathway to get a liver.

My issue currently is that I am terribly yellow. And my bilirubin is high. No medication will help with that. I was wondering if there was anything you did to that helped with the jaundice? I have been doing a keto diet with lower fats. And my energy levels are better.

But I would like not to be so jaundiced.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Kind regards

Michelle

HI Michelle,

Why lower fats? Can you get into Ketosis with lower fats? Ketosis is what saved me. I was stage 4 also then a year later 2.4. Haven’t had another biopsy since then but my live enzymes are back to normal now. Took 2 years. SO worth it. All i did was keto - no alcohol, no carbs, high fats. I had an ankle injury too so most was done while being a couch potatoe.

Praying you get the help you need quickly. That has to be stressful. Any way i can help let me know
