Reassurance on cholesterol test result

#1

Hi, Just found this forum while googling cholesterol results on a HFLC diet. It looks like a great resource!

I’ve actually been eating HFLC (often well under 20g carbs per day) for about 14 years now but have only just had my first ever cholesterol test.

I’m 36 years old and it’s a bit of a shock when the Doc starts talking about prescribing Statins so I was happy to come across these forums and the cholesterolcode website which goes someway to normalising the result.

Based on the small amount of reading I’ve done it actually seems like I may have made the LDL result even higher than it might have been by eating low calories (with almost zero carb) for a few days before the test. I hadn’t even considered that this could impact the results.

Anyway, I plan to follow the “Feldman Protocol” for a retest in a few months time.

Total Chol: 7.9 mmol/L
Triglyceride: 0.9 mmol/L
HDL - C: 1.5 mmol/L
LDL - C: 6.0 mmol/L
NON HDL-C: 6.4 mmol/L

Whether you Feldman or not your Trig/HDL ratio of 0.6 is brilliant. It is currently thought that this is a far better indicator of possible future negative outcomes. Under 1.0 is good under 0.87 is great and yours is well below.
I have similar numbers to you (just waiting for most recent test results) but not such a good Trig/HDL ratio … I’m jealous!

I’m going to check my results and see where I stand based off Trig/HDL ratio.

I was proscribed low dose of statin about 2.5 months ago and I’d rather not take medication for the rest of my life…heart specialist says I have no choice…same one my dad has had for 30+ years and even thought he has been on statins for who knows how long, a few months ago he had two blockages!! His body somehow built another pathway around one and needed a stint in the other. How could this happen if nothing was wrong with his cholesterol??

Hence, I’m getting to the bottom of it!

Here are two excellent videos from low carb Breckenridge. Definitely watch the first one before taking statins. It changed my mind!
