Really low ketone scores but doing everything correct

(Mark) #1

Hello

I’ve been on the Keto diet for a few months now, it is combined with intermittent fasting, plenty of fat, net carbs probably under 15/20. Only 1 or 2 cheat meals whereby I had a takeaway and bottle of wine but quickly resumed the next morning to strict Keto. My blood MMOL scores where always really high eg 4/5mmol, I’m sure I even posted in here wondering why they were so high. Anyway a few months on and I’m barely hungry, lost quite a bit of fat (but I’m doing this for mental clarity reasons primarily) can go a long time without feeling hungry and I’ve just tested my blood ketone scores and they are extremely low e.g 0.5 sometimes even lower. I’m strict about what I eat, I don’t do or take anything that would kick me out of Keto (that I’m aware of) my wife says it’s probably because my body is using the ketones now. Is this correct? Surely they should be highest than 0.3/0.5 ? Thank you in advance

Mine are about the same, though I’ve been low carb for a while now (7 years on 1/1/21). As long as you’re producing ketones, you should have lower insulin.

Ditto.

First was worried about BHB levels being too high. Then was worried about BHB levels being too low. Neither indicated much about my being in ketosis.

@Marky859 Inasmuch as you’re not getting metabolic fuel from carbs and you are still breathing, you are clearly in ketosis.

Advice: Life is short; better to find something else to worry about. Best wishes! :vulcan_salute:

They don’t matter, I lost the bulk of my 100lbs in that range. Only time I could ever break 1.0 was when I fasting. As long as you’re registering ketones at all, you’re good!
