Reaching my macros

(Terri) #1

i seem to have no problem reaching my limits for the day and still hungry. I started 7/18. Ex: I made scrambled eggs with heavy whipping cream, sautéed mushrooms an cheese (for the week), 1/2 avocado, cheese stick, pork chop w/8 Brussels sprouts n parm cuz, bacon wrapped pork tenderloin and 1/2 c spinach. Max out!!! That’s not a lot, I don’t think lol. I feel the heart palps n crappy feeling… I bought a meter and it was only 0.8 last night and 0.3 this am. Bought the exogenous KETO drive just had 1/2 scoop. Any suggestions? 1/2 avocado has 6 carbs?

I believe you’re looking at total carbs for the avacado. It had 2 net carbs per 100g’s.

Also, if you’re hungry, eat more. Whatever settings you’re using to determine macros have you at a deficit. Keto works by controlling insulin production, not through calorie restriction. If hungry, eat more fat. Have the whole avacado if you want. It’s a great Keto food.

Ithank you. Im using my fitness pal 20 carbs, 59 fat 79 protein. Can I eat more fat without messing up?

(Terri) #4

On my fitness pal it’s giving me 6 carbs…I guess it’s not doing net?

(LeeAnn Brooks) #5

Yes, absolutly.

MFP doesn’t track net carbs. You can set up your own entries to do this if you want. I simply use total carbs, but I don’t freak out if I go over 20 because I know many are fiber. Like yesterday I had 24 total. No big deal.

(Terri) #6

Thanks, yea, that’s kind of what I figured.

(Lonnie Hedley) #7

59 or 159? 159 seems like a more reasonable amount of fat grams.

(Terri) #8

59…that’s what it came out to be…that not right?

(Terri) #9

I just went on another site to do macronutrients and it gave me carbs: 139g, Protein: 139g, carbs 31. What the heck???

(Lonnie Hedley) #10

That’s under 1000 total calories (59x9 + 79x4 + 20x4). No way that’s correct.

(Terri) #11

No, it’s not right. Yup, that’s what I had…I was wondering why all the talk about eating so much fat yet mine was only 59g. That was through a calculator on a keto site. I went back on the one I have and redid it and now is 1,400 cal, 20 carb, 125 fat, 70 protein. More like it huh lol. Where did you get the calculations from? Thank you for looking into that for me.

(Raj Seth) #12

1400 calories a day is appropriate for only very small humans
what is your ht/wt/age/sex?
Unfortunately, in their infinite wisdom (NOT), all these calculators by default set you up for a caloric deficit to help you lose weight. That is bogus.
If you must use a calculator, then set it for maintenance

Better option - eschew the calculated macros. Limit carbs to 0, or as close to it. have some protein - eg equivalent of 8oz ribeye or three (wide margin there), and get all your daily caloric energy from FAAAAAAAT - thats all the tracking and counting you need.

See how that works for a month.

THEN, tweak with tracking if necessary. For many, that is sufficient.

(Terri) #13

Really? 5’4", 175, Female, 50

(Raj Seth) #14

I put that in for a lightly active lifestyle at ruled.me calculator and got
“Based on your inputs, we suggest you eat: 1749 calories. From those, 148g fats, 20g net carbs, and 84g protein”

(Terri) #15

Holy moly!!! lol That’s a lot of calories and fat hahaha!!! Thank you so much for doing that for me. I’ll be eating avocados til the cows come home!!!

(Lonnie Hedley) #16

4 Calories for 1g of protein and carb. 9 Calories for 1g of fat.

(Terri) #17

Thank you!!!

(Terri) #18

If I’m in ketosis and don’t meet my macros, will I still lose weight?
