RDI carbohydrate

I came across this in my travels today. I know that carbohydrate consumption is huge but really? 2g carbohydrate is only 1% of RDI?? I feel guilty if I eat 40g, I can’t imagine eating that much any more.

The SAD recommended carb allotment is like 300g a day…

Unfortunately, it’s the way math works where you have only three variables to play with. The first variable (fat) is put in the penalty box. You can only go so far with protein, or else you will get sick. And then, you are left with the third variable, carbs, which then has to take up the lion’s share of the SAD diet formula.

Yeah that’s what I thought. It’s also interesting to note that the listed macronutrients add up to way over 2000 calories even though the label states * based on a 2000 calorie a day diet. (400g carbs = 1600 calories without including fat or protein).

If 2 grams is 1%, then 200 g is 100 %, no? Which is 800 calories (200 g X 4 cal/g).

Nicely put!

In a country that’s 2/3 overweight, no surprise!

(Dustin Cade) #8

There are issues with how the calculations for being overweight are measured too…

(Steak and iron) #9

How so?

(Dustin Cade) #10

Going strictly on BMI which is based on height and weight, not factoring in muscle mass or amount of fat on the body

:scream:

Yes but that really only matters if you’re an enormous bodybuilder. Bmi is a perfectly fine way to determine if you’re overweight or not.

Its a simple took to get an idea (very antiquated), but it doesn’t tell the whole story, and being overweight does not necessarily mean unhealthy…

Well…I thought so too till I reached Goal. I was surprised to be relieved of all the pain I didn’t realize I suffered with.
