Over the last few months i have been having issues with waking up in the morning with very elevated blood glucose levels even though i only had a steak the night before. I know about the Dawn Phenomenon but what i have noticed recently is even with not eating my sugars seem to go up dramatically. Ive been keto going on a year in May. I’m a type one diabetic and up until 3-4 months ago had great control of my sugars just by diet. I haven’t really changed anything diet wise but not having this happen where i wake up and blood sugar is 160 and when i went to bed it was 95. Today i checked it at 6 am it was 89, didn’t eat anything check it again and its 140. This is consistent. Any ideas, suggestions. Does anyone know how to fix the dawn phenomenon. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure it can be fixed, unless it’s the result of stress or from eating hidden carbohydrate (i.e., it crept into your diet without your being aware).
Have you asked this question on the Type I Grit site? Surely someone there has encountered this.

Somogyi Effect?
The tendency of the body to react to extremely low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) by overcompensating, resulting in high blood sugar. The Somogyi effect, also known as the “rebound” effect, was named after Michael Somogyi, the researcher who first described it.
