Raising blood sugar - causes what?

#1

Hello,

Apart from hunger attacks due to ghrelin, what else do spikes in blood sugar level cause/affect when doing keto?

Thank you all!

Insuline levels go up and ketones go down, up to a point where you’re kicked out of ketosis.

Thank you Anderson. I am asking because I was talking to my GP and he told me all sorts of horror stories about Keto being unhealthy and that I’d never be able to eat any sugar again (not that I want to as Keto is a permanent change of diet) and if I did, the spikes in blood sugar could cause not only hunger pangs but pancreatic cancer.

Needless to say my GP does not approve of a ketogenic approach to weightloss and change of diet…

You won’t WANT to eat sugar and starch after you become fat-adapted. It won’t taste good anymore. That’s just a fact. Doctors who are still mostly eating carbs can’t imagine life any other way. Look at all the people here -nearly 10,000 of them - thriving without sugar.

Here’s a great resource for your doctor:

I must disagree. I have been eating very low carb for more than a decade (lost close to 180 lbs and been maintaining for 8 years). For the past two years I’ve been carnivore (zero carb), but I have (very rarely) had a dessert, and sweets taste as delicious to me as they ever did!

I eat the way I do for health and weight management, but the notion that sugar and starch “won’t taste good anymore” is not true for me. I choose not to eat them, but I abstain much like an alcoholic–i.e., I know the pleasure I’d get from eating them, but I also know the negatives involved.
