Quick fix

#1

Hey there. I used the caveman diet with great success. Lost 50 pounds pretty quick but still feel like crap all the time. A friend at work told me about keto and it sounds like it could be the answer to my crippling depression.

Now I hear a lot of different things about how to keto. All of them contradict one another. He says he’s on ketosis and says it’s simple. Just do the 70/20/5 macro for all the food you’re going to eat in that day. I’m not even THAT organized and at this point cannot predict when and how much I’m going to eat. I asked if I could just use this macro for every meal would it work. He said yes. So here it goes: I have very little time, and until I can get my eating schedule on track I would just like to do the 70/20/5 thing every meal. He’s drank olive oil I heard. Could a good quick fix be something like say a cup of olive oil for fat/piece of steak for protein/ and a piece of broccoli get me there. I dont care about taste. I just want to feel better.

Cronometer.com helps a lot to work out your macros. You don’t have to eat 70/20/5 (BTW that’s only 95%) every meal just so long as those numbers are close after all your meals for the day… and you don’t have to drink pure olive oil to be successful. Healthy fats can get obtained from animal meats, nuts, butter, cheese and other dairy products, fish, eggs and oils (not vegetable oils with the exception of olive oil).

Try to stay 20 net carbs or less per day, eat fat to satiety and drink plenty of water and get plenty of salt (2 liters and 2+ teaspoons, respectively). The last part is very important to not get the keto flu (carb withdrawal).

Keeping it simple doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go drinking cups of olive oil. Keep carbs below 20g and eat bacon and eggs for a week, and see how you go.

This would be a spectacularly poor ‘fix’.

This, although you used the meme, which is bad. Don’t think I didn’t see it, parenthetical asides aside.

Thanks guys. I guess this is something I’m going to have to just dive into and experiment at this point I’m going to go with steak, pork, veggies, and eggs for a few days while tryig to make the balance.

I’ll reiterate what others have said above - the important thing right now is under 20g carbs/day, and stay hydrated with electrolytes/salt. That’s it. Ignore the balance/ratios/whatever, it’s irrelevant at this point.

Just doing my part to Juice things up. :sunglasses:

A cup of olive oil is 1,900 calories.

(Laurie) #11

And more than 200 grams of fat. Which is a lot–especially since the steak has fat in it too.

#12

Isn’t calorie counting redundant if it’s not my weight that’s the issue?

#13

If you drink olive oil you will puke. At least I found adding too much fat if you are not used to it = feeling very very sick.

Try keto and if it doesn’t work for you take it a step further and try carnivore. Just eat fatty steaks. It helps my depression. But I would say before you go that restrictive, give keto a shot 1st.

Go ahead and drink a cup of olive oil. Let us know what happens. Keep in mind that some forms of oils are used as a laxative.

#15

Simple enough though that’s basically the cave man diet. I’ll try eating more fat and electrolytes. Salt and lemons are good for electrolytes. Anything else?

Carnivore. Lol. Tempting but how will I get vitamin c and fiber? I think I’m going to tell the vegans at work I’m going carnivore just to see their reactions. Lol

(Running from stupidity) #19

a) meat
b) not necessary (in a lot of cases)

I think I’m going to tell the vegans at work I’m going carnivore just to see their reactions. Lol

I’d do this even if I WASN’T going to do it…

What @juice said.

Check out Mikhaila Peterson (blog is called don’t eat that I believe) for her story on how she cured her depression with an all meat diet as well as other problems she had. Thats how I found out about the diet (and I found her through her father Jordan Peterson who had the same experience thanks to her).

If you want reassurance you wont get scurvy and die google Charlene Andersen and Kelly Hogan. They’ve been doing this for ages. I think 20 and 15 years .

I do recall Peterson talking about that on the Joe Rogan show. My buddy told me it was about the carnivore diet, and I had a hard time believing it. I’m going to stick with keto for now. I want to see what ketosis is like.

(Running from stupidity) #22

Oh, carnivore will get you there as well.
