Quick Calorie Deficit Question

(Andrew Larson) #1

So can there be a calorie deficit that is too big if the source of the deficit is from working out?
Example:
Bmr is 2000 calories
Intentional deficit to lose weight is 250
Leaving 1750 calories of food intake for the day.

But if I include an additional 500 calorie deficit from working out is that now too big of a deficit?
Is the 1750 calories (still on track with macros) plenty of calories for the day and is that deficit from working out the BEST way to acquire the deficit?

Assuming you actually mean BMR and not DREE, yes you can and it’s the reason CICO diets fail. You can play around with the difference between BMR and DREE using hunger as a stop signal but you still would want to stay well above BMR to avoid metabolic slowdown. In my opinion.

What is DREE?

Daily Required Energy Expenditure. It’s everything above the energy required to keep you alive in a coma. Google it.
