So I’m fairly new to this diet. Been doing it for almost a week and already down 4-5 pounds. But the last day or two I have been extremely and I mean EXTREMELY ITCHY! I have no rash. But everything from my scalp to the bottoms of my feet itch! Any ideas?! What can I do to make it stop? Like I said no rash! So weird. Also looking for some simple recipes! Share your favorite with me. I’m in love with this diet so far!! Best of luck to you all, she’d those pounds!

Hey there,
I experienced the same thing. crazy itchiness, and it would mainly hit me at night. It happens, keto rash is a thing. Mine went away, for the most part, about a month ago when i switched to mainly a carnivorous way of eating.

Did you develop a rash or just an uncontrollable itch? I have no rash I’m just frustrated. Especially because I want to swim more for exercise but am terrified of the water making my skin dry and even more itchy!

I have had that too. I always presumed it had something to do with keto being inherently anti-inflammatory and one’s body responding to that. But like George, my itchiness went away on it’s own.

What do you mean anti-inflammatory?

Carbs cause inflammation, so by going keto and cutting carbs, you automatically start losing inflammation.

Oh okay! So whenever I sweat and release the carbs and inflammation out of my pores it’s gonna cause me to be itchy until I’m in full Ketosis? That’s really upsetting lol because this is terrible.

Nutritional yeast sprinkle on maybe a salad! (bypass the itchiness)

Potassium (make sure it is adequate)

Cut back on fat a little for a while or eat more veggies. (overwhelming the liver when adapting)

Center of palms and bottom of feet itching?

(George) #10

No that’s not how that works LOL. I’ve been at this for over 6 months, and the itchiness barely stopped last month, but I’ve been in ketosis from week 2. The only difference I made a month ago was to go mostly carnivore, not just keto. So that may have played into it. Not everyone experiences it. My wife has been at it with me since the start and she never got itchy.

the palm itchiness was the worst for me!! So glad that stopped.

(Shanelle Peterson) #12

Oh man. I mean I know every body and everybody is different but this driving me nuts :sob: hopefully I find a balance sometime soon and it stops! My friend and I started at the same time and she’s having symptoms of Keto flu but no itchy skin like me.

Random question: is there an app for these forums or do you just have to keep it open on your browser?

My husband and I love pork steaks and cole slaw. We can eat cole slaw every night. I don’t really measure, just buy the bagged cole slaw, throw in some mayo, vinegar, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder - season to taste. My husband adds some cayenne and I have to say, it provides a nice kick. So delicious!

Have you checked out the Trilogy thread here? OMG, the things that people make look so enticing!

Same here! I didn’t really get the keto flu, but I was pretty dizzy for a couple hours on my 3rd day in, but that’s it. I did have fatigue later on but that was resolved when I learned I needed to take in more salt.

And I’m not sure about the app LOL. I just use the browser.

As far as recipes go, I’ve learned I do best when I keep it super simple. Fatty steaks, eggs, green leafy veg, and avocados are my go-to’s.

If I have a sweet-tooth, which is rare, I’ll make no-crust cheesecake (with no artificial sweetener as I believe it’s just easier and better overall to eliminate that from the get go)

One doesn’t “release carbs and inflammation” via one’s exocrine system.

Itching as you describe it, in the absence of visible skin changes/lesions is likely neurologic in nature i.e., a nerve reaction not an integumentary (skin) one. This can happen with a viral infection and is harmless. A correlation to a keto diet I cannot postulate, but as it’s reported by enough folks there may be one.
