Good evening
I am a newby. I curious to find out about keto for beginners. Do measure your foods to make sure that you are eating the right amounts?
Questions about daily meals
Some do, some don’t. I just try to keep my carbohydrate under 20 g/day, keep my protein reasonable, and eat fat to satiety. Some people call this lazy keto. If I had to measure every gram of food and keep track of all the calories and so on, I could never have gone keto.
In the beginning I did.
I focused on meeting my protein goal, eating fat for satiety and less than 20g of carbs.
Now that I only eat once a day, I don’t need to track as much.
I’m well versed in how many carbs are in my food as I eat the same thing every day so no need to be as strict.
It’s best to track in the beginning, if only to learn the carb contents of your favourite foods and to make sure you are on the right path.
I did most days for a few weeks till I got to where I understood what the carb and protein amounts were. I still weight somethings like MCT oil because too much can be a problem at the other end and HWC (Heavy Whipping Cream) because I could just drink HWC.
I have a scale at work and at home.
For the first 3 months, my plan included meticulous weighing, measuring and recording. I used an app on my phone. Lost 34#s.
Now I’m not. I mostly eat carnivore, and what few carbs I get don’t seem to throw me out of ketosis (I’ve never used any ketone measuring device with the exception of a coworker bringing a meter to work one day). Planning to compare progress and quality of life at the end of each month with my first three in terms of progress towards my goal weight and feeling less rigid about my eating.
For just starting out, pay attention. Be aware. If you can do that in your head and guestimate, go for it. If you find yourself not moving towards goals or results, it could be time to get more specific.
Hi Rosita, I measure and record my foods so I can track what I’m eating. I use Carb Manager to keep track. I find it keeps me honest! In the past, when I didn’t record, it was because I was cheating and then I fell off the wagon and quit whatever diet I was on at the time. I will continue to track what I eat for now, as I need to know what I am eating. It’s not the calories as much as it is the grams of carbs, and percentage of fat
