Question on fiber and fasting

(Jennie Greene) #1

So I have 2 questions:

  1. If I am considering doing a fast, can I have diet coke? I kknow it has aspartame but wasn’t sure on how that would affect it
  2. Can I do a fiber cleanse? I lost 10-12 lbs in my first week on keto and I am stuck. I am a month in and I feel like I should be losing some more. I also haven’t been regular in the potty department. It’s either diarrhea or nothing.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the TMI

:policeman: When I first read your post, I thought that aspartame was probably okay. But when I researched it and found out that there is 9.4 grams of net carbs in 1 tablespoon, I just about blew my siren.
I hope this helps you make an informed decision.

Holy crap! I am a diet coke junkie so maybe that’s the issue. I wonder why all the stats say 0 carbs on the bottles. Ugh. Thanks for the reply. Do you think a fiber cleanse is ok?

I really would not know much about that without some research. But I sure look forward to reading the replies from others that are more knowledgeable in that area.

Are you by chance having dairy as a significant source of protein and fat? Also as women we are faced with increased hormone issues that can cause disruptions in reaching goals. There are some good podcast that could help direct you in checking other roadblocks. Check out Leanne Vogel’s podcast. Another good podcast is Ali Miller naturally nourished.

I’m a pretty much do what works for you kind of person, but for a fast I would avoid artificial sweeteners as they could potentially raise your insulin levels, even though there is no actual sugar.

Dr Berry had a good video about cleansing. I think it amounted to just fast and let your body cleanse itself naturally. No need to add anything extra (fiber, juices etc). I’ve never done a cleanse or an extended fast though so my experience and advise are limited.

It sounds like you are not fat adapted yet. You are just beginning and your body is probably still healing and adapting to your new WOE. Loading up on fiber is not going to help. For most of us, the less fiber the better when it comes to :poop:

There’s no way there’s that many carbs in a can of Diet Coke. There’s lots of other reasons to avoid it, but it’s simply not possible. Manufactures can only say 0 carbs if a serving size contains less than half a gram (.5).

I could buy some off brand, unknown company majorly mislabeling a product this way, but a company like Coke that’s been around as long as it has would have been challenged on this a log time ago if they were mislabeling it in such a way.

I had this experience for the first three months. I fixed it by eating one avocado for lunch every day. The fiber keeps me regular and it actually bulks up.
