Has anyone else experienced facial flushing (face becoming red and hot) while in ketosis?
I have noticed it is particularly prevalent after a high fat meal, especially with a lot of coconut oil. It is quite disconcerting.
[Question] Facial flushing and Keto
Your body is burning the excess calories, the opposite of being cold when you cut calories too much. In ketosis, when you overeat, it doesn’t necessarily get stored, it’s why calories in–calories out doesn’t work.
is it concerning? does it go away?
It is fascinating how calories in calories out is a flawed (but useful at this point) metric for energy.
It’s not concerning and probably won’t go away, I don’t want it to, when I over eat fat I would much rather burn it than store it. Also, if I’m cold, I know a tablespoon of coconut oil will warm me up.
I get flushed with coconut oil. But not with Trader Joe’s Organic Triple filtered coconut oil. Strange. Not sure why.
Myself I have been getting the sweats and really hot. I have increased my water intake as much as I can, also I still have not gotten past the acetone “dragon breath” stage. I am almost 3 weeks in and hoping it will end soon. Perhaps an MCT oil might be another option?? I have yet to try them myself, but I hear good things:
