Question about losing body fat

(Donna) #1

Hi All! I placed this post on another forum earlier, but haven’t recieved any response yet, so decided to add it here too. I have been eating healthy (low carb) and exercising for the past 1 and half months and I am noticing fat loss by my measurements and the way some of my clothes are fitting. I have noticed a loss in my neck, legs, hips, thighs, butt and the width of my shoulder and upper chest areas. However, I still feel the same in my waist and stomach. Has anyone loss fat in a lot of places first, before noticing it in the stomach and waist? I am hoping I will eventually see some progress in the other two areas, since they are my most annoying places. Maybe I am losing some fat in the stomach, but just don’t feel or see it yet. I don’t know. Thanks!

I definitely had this happen…for me it was my upper arms and under bust line area shrinking - well outpacing any loss in the tummy region. It was new for me as I had previously tended to both gain and lose my tummy first no matter the diet being utilized. Eventually, my waist measurement started to decrease. I am still nowhere near my goal, but very slowly I see things evening out in regards to losses of inches and proportions.

My finding is that the long you stay with it, the fat seems to come off proportionally - at least in my case. I am very satisfied with how it is coming off (7 months). Good luck.

Hi Donna, unfortunately we can’t decide where the fat our body decides to burn comes from. Many women complain about their breasts getting smaller but the stomach area is stubborn. As a man I wanted to lose the breast fat and stomach fat too. But it went from most every other place first with the abdominal area slowly following behind. Now one year in I just have some stubborn fat still but I don’t really want to lose more weight. I’m still making progress using fasting now. It just takes time and patience knowing you are moving in the right direction. I wish you success with KETO. :cowboy_hat_face:

Hi Donna =). I have lost 48 pounds so far since February and I am not sure where that has come off from exactly. I have donated some pants and tops that were too baggy and big for me; and I am wearing some at that pretty baggy still but I don’t want to buy new ones, as I need to lose about 120 or more pounds still! I know I have lost it, and clothes are baggier, but I haven’t measured. Some of my shirts are way longer now, so I have lost weight around my tummy and back for that to happen, even if I don’t see it in the mirror a lot. I have clothes in my closet that I keep trying on, and if some are too big, they are added to my donation or rag pile (depending on their condition!).

Best wishes, I am sure over time, it will come off in places that you want it to by the time you are at goal, or you can do some tweeking then with fasting or exercise for the rest =)).

Thanks! I have had so much extra stomach weight for years, that I get paranoid that it won’t go away. It’s the first place I tend to put the weight on, so I’m thinking it will be the last to go.

Thank you! My hips/sides are thinning out, so it makes my stomach look wider and bigger, as many people do complain about that. It can be so annoying. I know I will have to let the weight loss run it’s course though.

Hey! That is awesome (48lbs). I am down only 21 so far. I feel like my fat loss is a little here and a little there. Thank you for the great advice. Stomach fat is such a bummer. I’m getting thinner on the sides, looking straight at myself, but the stomach gets in the way. LOL I have about 86lbs to go until I reach my goal too. Seems like a lot of lbs still, but I just focus on every lb or two loss at a time, as success. I haven’t always and that’s why I probably quit too soon many times in the past. I was always focusing in my head on the larger number, rather then smaller goals.

Hi @Blessings,

You may want to read the section on cortisol (near the bottom) and see if it applies to you (the whole article is interesting but the section on cortisol discusses belly fat reduction specifically).

Hi David! I get what your saying about what many women want. LOL Watched so many videos and the breast were probably their first complaint, when explaining about what they experienced when losing weight LOL. I appreicate the good wishes very much! You as well too!

(Donna) #11

Thank you! I will read it for sure. I’m thinking stress in my life has a lot to do with my belly issue in me. I have lived a life of stress for years. I am now just after a divorce, getting back on my feet and most of the time have very little stress. Hoping it will help some, as I lose my weight. I will definantly take a look at your link soon. Thanks!

I totally relate. The first few months my pants had a terrible tendency to roll at the waist line: my butt was shrinking and my belly remained. I had to wear belts to stop it! Such an awkward shape. It’s getting better, I was able to quit wearing belts and my pant waistbands stopped rolling. Although when I measure at my belly button it’s only an inch smaller. Weird.

I am eating as close to about 70% fat as possible. I thought as well, that it was kind of fast. I do walk a lot and keep my calories on the lower end (1290), without eating any back with exercise and I haven’t had any issues yet with that. I am prepared to adjust if I need to down the road. Glad to hear about your tummy fat loss. Hopefully I can say the same one day. I think the biggest area I have noticed is in the butt and hips, but my shirts are hanging a little longer and the neck lines are starting to get that annoying (I have to always be adjusting them from fallin to the sides of my neck thing). Might be annoying, but I guess I should be excited that it is. I’ll just need to get some new t-shirts soon. LOL

That is great, that you are losing though. It’s funny how everyone’s story of weight loss is different. I love reading everyone’s journey.

(Libby) #16

This is not a quick fix for me, but that’s okay. I got nothing but time  At least that’s what I try to keep telling myself. Am definitely thinner. Which is way better than being definitely fatter which is what I would have been if I hadn’t changed my diet. So there’s that. Hope your own journey goes a lot quicker than mine!

Thanks Libby!

Very interesting article. Thanks for sharing!

Yup.

If you ever figure out how to make your body do what you want, rather than what it thinks best, do let us all know, will you please?

I started with 80 lbs. to lose, which seemed impossible at the beginning. I had no hope of ever being thin again. Not there yet, however, I notice that with keto, it is so enjoyable that the days just seem to pass effortlessly without obsessing about “my diet.” Get weighed every couple of months and it’s amazing that I continue to lose. Months pass and now the number is getting up there.

The beauty of keto is that if we stay on this, we will all get there.
