But that’s just it - I don’t believe I need the calories. I believe I’m getting the “missing” calories from burned fat. I’ve actually restricted calories before, before keto, and I felt like crap. I’ve also eaten 1200-2000 calories on keto and didn’t lose weight, even when I was ZC and eating a lot of fat, because I believe my meds and other things like caffeine and dairy were keeping my insulin elevated, and therefore wasn’t burning body fat. This is the first time I’ve lost weight and felt good at the same time. I’m even sleeping better despite backing off my sleeping pills.
Question about calorie restricting?
Interesting but if this is what works and you feel fine, do it, I guess. It’s odd to me but people are so amazingly different, sometimes shockingly so…
Good luck! You obviously need to eat more eventually but for now, enjoy the positives, I guess
I just watched a lecture by Dr. Phinney, in which he says that people who try to restrict their caloric intake when they begin a ketogenic diet tend to start regaining some of the weight they’ve lost, about a year in. He strongly recommends eating to satiety right from the beginning. The fat loss may be slower, he says, but it tends to stay off.
Also, I’ve been reading and watching a lot lately about the deleterious effects of seed oils on metabolic health. If you are not already doing so, you might want to rely primarily on the solid fats (butter, lard, etc.), which are mostly saturated and monounsaturated. Polyunsaturated intake should be very low, apparently.
Dr. Phinney’s discussion of dietary fat begins around 26:30:

I was concerned about stuffing my metabolism up too, so did a bit of research and found this article by the guru of fasting…https://thefastingmethod.com/fix-broken-metabolism/
Well worth reading, enjoy!
Remember to check your ketone levels (blood measurement).
If you are burning a lot of ketones, your body is NOT starving.
Are you getting cold? Hands/Feet. These are signs of a slowing metabolism.
I just did 3 Meals in ONE WEEK (M,W,F). Sunday was HARD as my hands and feet were cold. I was cold, and I went to bed abnormally early. I also had extreme “Food Thoughts”. Literally all I could think about was eating food while I was laying in bed. It was a rough night. I woke up fine. My ketones were 2.8 that night, and 2.4 in the morning… (I walked 20 miles over 3 days while fasting that much as well)…
If you are not cold/hungry and you have fat to burn with access to it… I think you are fine…
From my experience. 18/6 fasts aren’t even close to the benefits experienced during 20/4, 21/3, 22/2 and 23/1 because growth hormone tends to start increasing drastically around 18 hours till around 26 hours and then decreases. So eating at 18 hours plummets growth hormone early.
The charts in the following article are enlightening.
