I’ve asked a few people and got very different answers. I trad the ingredients and nutritional info for beef brats so it looks very Keto friendly. When I ask people about it some say not to eat them and others say absolutely eat them. Anybody eat beef brats with no issues?
Question about Brats
I eat sausages of various kinds all the time. Just be sure to always check the label for the ingredient list. Many of them have added bread crumbs. Some also have sugars added…honey garlic sausages and so forth.
As you saw, different opinions. Many people are scared off by even 1g of sugar in there, I’m not and never had a problem. Just go with the best ones you can find. No reason to take any sausage out of the equation, it’s too damn good to let it go.
You are so right about that. I plan to put some on the grill today and sauté some onions and sauerkraut to go with it. Thanks for the input
Whew. I thought you had a question about ill behaved children.
But I will say that having cooked brats and various sausages from scratch (and smoked then) that the “Italian sausage” seems to be very low carb and high fat, I use pork and veal for brats but my recipes have powdered milk and milk in them…I guess you could make them without them but the traditional recipes have this … bread crumbs? That seems pretty superfluous but I imagine people toss cheap ingredients in when they can…
I eat them loads. Cook a whole load on the weekend and keep them in the fridge at work as my daily food, normally eating four each day.
The goal to remain in ketosis is to restrict carbs and many of us here use 20 grams per day as a budget. If you want to spend your carbs on brats (1-3 carbs per link usually) or cabbage or nuts is up to you. Just spend your carbs wisely.
I love sausage. Brats, kelbosa, knockwurst, etc. yummmmm
But…I tried to take a chance on some kelbosa that had honey on the list. That night I felt like crap. Sine it was the only new addition to the diet since I started Keto…I am sure the inflammation was from that.
So…maybe not afraid of any added sugars…but, there could be a price to pay.
