PUR mints or gum? Has anyone tried them?

#1

Just wondering if any of you Keto-Folk have ever tried this product? Apparently they make mints and gum, and according to all the searching I did the other night, this is usually the first on most list.

I used to do mints occasionally, (mostly wintergreen) and basically just kept some of the individual wrapped ones in a jar on my desk for any who wanted one when they came in. And though I don’t necessarily miss them, because I didn’t eat them regularly, it was nice for a dry mouth or occasional taste throughout the day.

But this past Saturday, I was doing the first of three training seminars, where I have to speak quite a bit with a microphone to a auditorium full of people. - About half way in, I thought I noticed a slight odor to my breath, or at least I believe it was? (Unless it was the mic?) … Anyway, this is actually the first time I’ve noticed this, and my wife agreed that she hadn’t noticed anything before. But there were a few other things I thought may have aided in this too? … I was on day 2 of a 4 day fast (First time for me on a weekend) This and I was quite dry-mouthed, since I spent over an hour setting up all the chairs and stuff, since someone forgot to. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

So anyway, when I got home Saturday evening and spoke with my wife about this, I started looking on-line if there were any Keto-Friendly breath mints that could be purchased. And this PUR product, seemed to top all the list that I came across. And of course, along with all this, came loads of personal opinions and insights that ranged from one end to the other. … But funny enough was that a lot of the folks said their mints were actually quite good, but the down side was that the flavor only lasted about a minute? (But if this is just for, say, breath related issues, would this be sufficient, or would you have to eat these darn things all day?) … This is one of the things I was trying to find out here. But at the same time, they said the gum wasn’t bad. But to be honest, I’ve never really been big on gums, so not sure if this would be something for me?

Thanks in advance for any advice/information that can be provided. They apparently have quite a few flavors to choose from, which I think would cover a lot of folks individual preferences as far as personal taste. And this is in both gum and mint forms. In case anyone is interested, I placed their link below, but if I do end up trying some, I might just purchase some from Amazon? depends on the deal. They also have my WinterGreen, but also a few other flavors that caught my eye, such as Chocolate Mint & Tangerine Tango. Thanks again.

I have not tried this it does look interesting though I may give it a whirl . I have tried spry gum I found it at my local health food store and it’s really good as well .

Yes, I use Pur gum and Spry gum, but not often. Maybe once a month on a shopping trip when I don’t have a chance to brush my teeth. I buy gum rather than mints because I’m incapable of sucking on a mint. (I chomp 'em and they’re gone.) If you can keep a mint in your mouth for a few minutes, maybe you don’t need to bother with gum.

Xylitol kills cavity-causing bacteria, so it might also kill bad breath-causing bacteria. It’s relatively low on the glycemic index, but it is a sugar alcohol and might affect people who are sensitive to sugar alcohols.

Keep in mind that xylitol can be deadly to dogs, so keep it hidden or locked away (or just buy it for certain events and throw the rest away).

People who talk a lot (teachers, etc.) exhale a lot of moisture and need to drink extra water. Water might help with the breath issue too.

I use Altoids arctic if I need a mint

I really like both the gum and the mints. Very tasty and great to have on hand when you are worried about your breath. I was very happy to find mints with no aspartame and sucralose.

Thanks for the info folks. … Like I said, I don’t recall my breath being an issue, and still not sure if it even was? But I do like the idea of having something around to use in case it does. And yes, Spry, was generally number two on all the list that pulled up as well. So it sounds like these two are definitely the sources of choice.

So think I will go ahead and order some and see how they work out.@Wishbone I actually was planning to look them up, but kept seeing these other ones. But will take a look at them as well. Thanks.

@islandlight - Self control, Laurie, self control! This is not like that old Tootsie Pop commercial, 1, 2, 3! (Which by the way, actually just re-aired a couple weeks ago, because the wife couldn’t believe it.)

@Short224 … I’ll post something back here when I do get to try some. We were thinking of getting both to try and I think the wife prefers chewing gum herself.

Funny guy. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had actually bought a variety pack on amazon. They were good. Unfortunately my high addiction to sugar just makes me eat one after the other until i’ve eaten so many i’m bloated and dont feel good! So if you can control yourself from thinking its really sugar’d gum…you’ll like them! !
