Pub Med: The Effect of Low-Carbohydrate and Low-Fat Diets on Pain in Individuals with Knee Osteoarthritis

I was always told by doctors for YEARS “it’s arthritis and it simply happens as you get older.” I was also told that there wasn’t much that could be done about it and it would only get worse as you get older. The ONLY truth in the statements that I was told by them was that it was “inflammation” in the joints but NONE of them correlated my lifelong excessive consumption of carbohydrates, restriction of sodium, and low-fat diets along with the consumption of fake, phony “vegetable” oils (nothing real about Crisco, wesson, and other “oils” that are lab-created normally by running the product through CHEMICAL SOLVENTS) that truly were the problem.

Fast forward to Nov 2017 (the last month that I was in the gym before my surgery) and I had ONLY been keto for just over a month and while I was beaming with the fact that for the first time since my late 20’s when i was in perfect shape yet still was beginning to suffer from “high sugar” in the blood that my bloodwork was NOW “perfect” except for my A1C but even it had dropped from 8.3 down to 6.1 (OVER 2 full points in just over a MONTH!!!) and even had the abnormal “heart” issues that I was suffering FOR YEARS disappeared.

BUT, I was at the gym later that day and about halfway through the workout I was getting ready to do “shoulders” and for years I dreaded shoulders because my doctors told me that I had everything from a torn rotator cuff to arthritis (strangely it was both shoulders, knees and everything else LOL!) but about halfway through my 4th set I realized “HEY…MY SHOULDER’S DON’T HURT!!!”.

Since then i know that LCHF/KETO is a very anti-inflammatory diet and I can almost to a point tell when I eat something that claims to be “keto” but isn’t because my body almost IMMEDIATELY becomes inflammed for a short time and to think I USED TO LIVE THIS WAY ALL DAY EVERYDAY!!!

I still have an issue or two with my joints but since I’ve learned that those are from the damage that was done from the inflammation that was done to me as I followed the standard American diet and the doctors advice to take meds for the pain which did little to nothing to reduce the “issue” since they just masked the symptoms.

Lastly, I see so many people walking and limping etc., and complaining about it while eating junk food (I consider most carbs as such) not realizing that with a few changes they could live pain free or at least mostly pain free (some damage will sadly be permanent) simply by eating real food and by avoiding the foods that cause the inflammation in the first place.

If you have been diagnosed with “inflammation” and ANY of the “ITIS’s” (ex: arthritis) know that it can in most cases be reduced, it will take time BUT it’s worth it and I ain’t going back!

Preach it, bro! I’ve had the same experience with my knees. Climbing stairs is no longer the torture it used to be. Also, the arthritis in my fingers hasn’t troubled me for well over a year. Like you, I can’t necessarily claim the damage has been fully reversed, but boy oh boy, what a difference!

Thanks for your inspirational posts, Ron. They always lift me up.

I was diagnosed with degenerative bone disease in my lower back about ten years ago, which is a fancy phrase for getting old. I suffered daily for the past ten years with some type of discomfort ranging from mild to frustrating. Seven months of eating low carb and I truly feel normal again. There’s zero inflammation in my back and it’s been a good four months since I’ve noticed any type of pain at all.

We know that a ketogenic diet “relieves” the symptoms of the -ITIS but what is the actual cause?

Grains (gluten), high fructose corn syrup HFCS seems to be the major culprit in this?

Especially gluten which acts like shards of glass that cut rip and tear and wear down the microvilli which are little finger like thingies that absorb nutrients in food and also where the gut microbiome live.

Then we have the second factor like HFCS punching tiny holes (utilizing gut microbiome) in the intestinal tract so the food goes directly into the blood stream; then the immune system reacts by creating antibodies to go after whatever it is in the food it sees as a foreign substance; that does not belong their, but at the same time attacking cartilage between the joints; hence -ITIS (a very specific type of anti-body that goes after non-living tissue) because it does not know that it is attacking itself?

That is the origin of diverticulosis and intestinal polyps and pre-cancerous nodules and how intestinal/colon cancers start to form?

A good reason I eat very little grains, veggies and sugars of any kind.

And most important bone broth to seal up any leaks (leaky gut) just in case…lol

For me, it was plantar fasciitis

Inflammation went away after years of pain
